As someone who likes follows classical music almost as closely as trance, I have to say, I don't believe Tenshi samples any specific classical piece. The melody has a bit of a Bach feel, but nothing specific. Love the song though

Like Wise!!!!
Which is why I was so curious about this so called classical tenshi piece... I would love to hear the original if it exists
AND Yes, the main Tenshi melody does have a typical baroque-style chord progression... But not really in the strictest sense.

Tenshi is a Japanese word for angel (and sometimes for emperor).

I have to agree, there's no part in Tenshi that exactly echoes a classical piece. But if you listen to Tenshi, it's really put together like a classical work. People think I'm nuts when I say that alot of trance is pieced similarly to classical music. But if you listen to it, it has a prominant melody and numerous other intertwining parts. If you can understand the music then you can pick it apart like a puzzle, whereas some people can only hear the song as a whole, not with individual parts. Maybe thats why I like trance so much?
Not sure if that makes sense to anyone. I'm rambling. heh

if you dun wanna read on classical music mumbo-jumbo..skip my post.
nope, tenshi actually doesn't sound very classical to me in the sense of chord structure....too simple a construction and it actually sounds kind of based on the dorian scale which would make it a more pre-classical style. ligaya on the other hand has a very nice chord progression with a lot of passing 2nd inversions and cadential 2nd inversions to lengthen the whole melody.
Hmmmm...as i just re-heard ligaya...both ligaya and tenshi seemed based on the dorian scale....i wonder if that is ferry's trick.

I've downloaded Vangelis - Light And Shadow and the melody is the same as in Tenshi, so it's indeed a cover What a surprise!!!!
No way! I was wrong to doubt then. I always thought it was by FC/Tiesto. When I found the site, I thought it would have been wrong. Ah well, it will be interesting to listen to Light and Shadow when I get in!
I'm almost certain that Walhalla, Gouryella and Gorella are originals. I hope so, cos Walhalla kicks too much ass to be a cover!!!
