thanks for the input, keep it up

but as ive gathered so far...
you'd be willing to support a smaller local event, provided there was:

good sound (i.e. louder doesn't mean better, clarity = better)
good lighting (i.e. lasers are a must)
good music, however the actual dj doesn't necessarly matter as long as the tunes are pumping and there's a variety
downtown venue
more or less a 50/50 ratio of guys to girls
reasonable drink prices
and friends, however that one is out of the promoters hands

what about dress codes? yay or nay?
does it add to the class of an event or just cause problems and turn away more people than it attracts?

anything you've ever wanted to see at an event (within reason, we're not talking about the love parade or trance energy here)
perhaps free water? nights that go past 3am? free givaways (cds, tapes, etc.)?

would these types of things gain your support? or are they meaningless things that do nothing for the night?

- Hawtin and Sven Vath

Anybody else think the trance scene in Toronto is dying?

Picotto - spins mainly 80% of the time strictly techno
Digweed - doesn't spin trance, occasionally drops trance tracks
Sasha - doesn't spin trance, rarely drops trance tracks
Guy Ornadel - spins trance
Tall 2XLC - spins mainly trance, techno & hard trance
Tiesto - is he even considered trance anymore???
Hawtin & Sven Vath - trance??? dunno about Hawtin, but Sven Vath is a techno legend...

so my man wat are you talking about? toronto throughout the whole year has received more progressive, house & even breaks dj's than trance & techno, thats the bloody truth! so wats my conclusion...well i think that the trance scene here is quite pretty dead

Nay, why should people who really love the music have to dress up in clothes they don't feel comfortable in? Just have certain restrictions on it.... for example - no bandanas (to avoid thug types). Plus with a dress code it seems like some people are just trying to dress to impress other people instead of enjoying the music.

the dress code thing...
it really shouldnt be enforced. Again...Malice brought up a good point. Some people feel uncomfortable "dressing up". If its more as a lounge type scene..then maybe. But if its a banging party...u dont wanna dance around for a couple of solid hours wearing a dress shirt.
For those inclined to dress up(like me) lol thats our problem....the whole thing about "dress to impress"...obviously itll look a tad nicer, but we'll end up soaking our clothes in sweat half way.
It's all about what a person feels comfortable dancing in.

Just to comment for real here. It's not that the big dj's make the best parties, they are however the ones I attend. I only get a chance to hit a party every so often (because of money and school) and therefore the bigger parties (IE: with bigger dj's) will always garner my attention first.

Me too.

For me the perfect party would be:
cheap drinks: I have more fun when I'm drunk.

lots of women: When you advertise a party like "ladies in free b4 12", more women come which makes more guys come. It's in my opinion one of the best advertising ideas.

dress code: I don't really have too much reasoning behind this, I just prefer parties with dress code over any other party.

Music: House is nice to start off the night until about 12, then some nice trance until 3-4, then some bangin progressive till closing time (hopefully around 6).

for the record, sven vath used to produce trance records, he got bored and switched to techno.

half a dress code is nice, for me it means turning away kandi kids and my uncle george and his wife(you know the 45+yrs type that just don't fit in there), also turning away goths is a plus ( i just saw some of them last weekend and I was like wtf!?!) but since all this is impossible to enforce (you can't just tell them to fuck off), casual dress should be enforced...

also very important, ventilation system to clear that damn smoke that make my eyes bleed

half price for ladies, then you have a good female/male ratio

Those were just off the top of my head mate. Shit if you want to be that picky who the fuck spins trance. I mean what are you talking about Tiesto doesn't spin trance. Give me a god damn break. To a certain extent all dj's spin elements of something else, but saying that trance is only trance if it's fucking Gouryella, geez.

In reference to the post in the first place I was actually just talking about dj's in general. He made it sound like all parties were dead. I dunno. Anyways, whatever.

Seriously people, I think the only thing that this city needs is some afterhours clubs and places people can chill in the morning after the whole clubbing experience... something a-la Comfort Zone, just a bit goddamn "cleaner".

And dress code? Are you kidding me... some of us don't really feel comfortable dressing up.
