if its a gateway drug it is only BECAUSE of the prohibition...the govt makes the unknowing think that MJ is just as bad as coke, heroin and worse than alcohol and cigs - so when a person tries it, and most people eventually do, they are thrown for a loop. it is most certainly a drug, but its in general safer than even Ibuprofen and even has less ill effect if eaten (no stomache bleeding, but most importantly no throat/neck cancer). late|

How can alcohol be legal and MJ not be?

It certainly can't be because the govt is looking out for our health, alcohol has caused 100000000000000000000000 times more damage than pot ever will. I've done a fair bit of drugs in many combinations but I have never felt worse than after a night of drinking hard alcohol.

I would argue that because of its accessibility, alcohol is the worst drug possible. I read somewhere that 16/100 people who drink will become alcoholics wheras 15/100 who try heroin and 6/100 for cocaine become addicted.

I understand that alcoholics have created a new metabolic pathway in their digestive systems due to the years of drinking. That's probably why alcohol withdrawl is so horrible.

Compared to alcohol, pot (and many other drugs) seem harmless for reasons already stated here.

My reasoning is that if alcohol is legal, then pot should definitely be also.

I have no problems with other people smoking pot. People should be free to make decisions for themselves as long as they are the only ones affected by that decision.

However, advocating the use of pot to "for health purposes" as some pot heads have put it, is absurd. Pot is a recreational/pleasure drug, so just admit it. It's like saying, "if you smoke three packs of cigarettes per day your glucoma will be cured."

i agree with you on the fact that having a bunch of burnout stoners argue the medical marijuana route is rediculous, for the most part.

the truth is, that MJ has been proved to be helpful in the treatment of certain glaucomas, and in restoring appetite in terminally ill patients. these may be small areas of acceptable application - but if heroin can be prescribed just by calling it Morphine, then thc should be as well.

they have a pill form of tnc thats notoriously unreliable, either it does nothing or puts people to sleep. and smoking seems anti-health, but its simple and reliable.

its certainly a complicated issue|
