so, if i want ACCURATE sounding headphones with good isolation, are the sennheisers the cans for the job?
I like to hear my music in as good quality as possible, and i am not wiling to sacrifice sound quality for ease of use in clubs just yet.

WEll then, yes yes yes !!!
i have the senn 280's as well. i wholeheartedly recommend them in a studio / bedroom environment, simply because nothing beats accuracy. in a club environment, though, you might get the bass washed out.
this is not a bad thing! it simply means that the hd280's don't have exaggerated bass. in fact the bass is incredibly accurate. you can even hear subbass, something you can't do with any other "dj" headphone. (AFAIK)
i would say mixing with the highs is something to be left for the club. when you're in a quiet environment (i.e. bedroom), then mixing with the lows is the best bet, because you can hear the bass cancelling effect when the beats are just *perfectly* aligned. note that you can only really hear this with 'phones that have accurate bass reproduction (*cough* hd280's *cough*). another good phone for this is the v6.
you might want to eventually have 2 pairs of "working" headphones. one for the studio/bedroom (hd280), and another for the club (your standard, exaggerated bass v700's or most other "dj" headphones will do). but be sure to wear earplugs (or your ears will turn to mush) or if you're good at mixing with the highs, and don't mind the senn's looks, take ur hd280's to the club anyway.
p.s. why do people think they're ugly! i personally find the hd-280's to be very good-looking. i think of them as the prototypical, "big-cup" dj-headphone. those headphones that are being advertised as "dj headphones" are in fact NOT "dj" headphones. rather they're just shiny devices to sell the company name. you can't admit to me with a straight face that the sony mdr-v700's look the way they do because they are "designed for the dj". it is because they are sexy, and that sells.
