But I prefer horror movies like Evil Dead & Braindead (Dead-Alive)

Evil dead has to be one of the funniest movies I've ever seen

I have never been able to pick between full metal jacket, Apocalypse now (watching the redux version now) and good morning vietnam.
Apocalypse now is just so fucked up yet brilliant

Full metal Jacket is hlarious and harsh, I like the way it is filmed.

Good morning vietnam is one of the funniest films in history, yet it has the serious bit at the end.

I like this thread coz I've always loved Nam films.

As a vietnamese person, the only film which truly depicts the War, from a civilian and single soldier's viewpoint was Heaven and Earth, directed by Oliver Stone. IT is basically a story about a youung girls life as she grows up and experiences the war when she is in her teens. She sees her friends and family murdered by VC, her brothers get conscripted into war, and is raped by more VC. When the US shows up she meets a so;dier (Tommy Lee Jones) and they fall in love blah blah, but the film goes on to show how the refugees of the war coped (or didn't cope as the case is) in a diffeent country, when they escaped (The vietnamese boat people) THe conflicting cultures are well described in the film at this point, and when the girl goes back to Vietnam, many thjings have changed and the doctrine of communism has taken a hold on her brothers.

But aside from that Hamburger Hill and Full MEtal JAcket are quite good, for their semi-satirical view on life (FMJ) and for using real Vietnamese peeps in the cast! IT is funny watching "'Nam" films such as the RAmbo and Delta force movies and when the subtitles say "They speak Vietnamese" THEY DONT!!! LOL

anyway, there ya go, watch Heaven and Earth, it is wicked!

I don't know if it's in the first or in one of the other ones, one of the girls gets molested by a TREE. And when people die at the end there's a WHOLE LOT of claymation (can we say..Gumby?). LOL I find them hilarious, along with Children of the Corn. haha

It's good to see so many of you are into `Nam war movies. dj_mdma, i was just about to go rent that and see what it's like. I've read the reviews and it sounds pretty good. But nothing will ever change my live, Platoon has to be the best `Nam war movie, if not the best movie ever made! (Well in my books :P) FMJ and AN fucking rocked though Haven't seen Good Morning Vietnam yet but i will pretty soon. Oh and BTW, has anyone seen Born On The 4th Of July, if anyone has what's it like?

I did not like born on the forth of july. horrible movie. Not about the war at all.

The Deer Hunter is another movie about the vietnam war. A slow moving movie, but if you want you can see it.

What about books?

my suggestion would be A Rumor of War. Not like most nam war books. Still in the first person biography but his views are different than the usual anti war crap.

I've read the We Were Soldiers Once And Yound book and i'll tell you it's different from the movie. In the book the journalist (or whoever wrote the fuckin book) said that one of the Air Cav Sgt.'s had to play dead because the VC were mowing them all down with RPD machine gun, in the movie it's exactly the opposite

Ahh well Holliwood does it again
