This is an old re-hash arguement for sure, but for the record, I can't stand 128 bit recordings.
They're hard on my ears, especially at higher volumes.
I agree, the highs do get nasty and there's no bass punch.
To me, there's a world of difference between 128 and 192.
After listening to tOOns for a while, I don't even have to look at my player, I can tell if it's 128 or not just from the highs alone.
I'm not saying I'm special, just sayin' that I can tell.

after all my years of mp3 leeching, i have found no better compression for music than hi-bitrate MP3. 192 kbit, lame hi-quality VBR, 256 kbit+... i always strive to get those bitrates.
All of the newer formats that gives a better sound at a lower bitrate than mp3 of the same bitrate (i.e. an ogg vorbis/mp3"pro" at 92 kbit certainly *does* sound better than regular mp3 at 92kbit) simply do not appeal to me - as a regular 192kbit+/VBR mp3 generally has superior sound to those anyways! With hard drives getting the size they are, & optical media on the cheap... i dont know why ppl still complain about space.
i'll give exception to solid state mp3 players (i.e. 64 mb rios) tho, which are heavily priced for the miniscule amount of music they hold.
