er.. i think it is because Christmas, is the celebration of Jesus. That is how the day of Christmas came about i think. At least it makes sense since Christ is in Christmas.

I dont understand why years need to be counted relavent to Jesus. Did people realize that they should start counting when Jesus was born?
If jesus was born 6 years before the year 0 B.C, then we should be living in 1996 instead of 2002.
