This has to be one of the most hypocritical pieces of sh*t I have ever read! dJohn, you can't go around throwing your opinion in everybody elses' faces and then turn around and say that THEIR opinions are rediculous. And can you do what your "commercial DJs" do? Are you as successful as they are? Hummm I really, seriously doubt it. And so what if their songs have been on some other DJ's top lists? That means the songs are respected, and well-liked. So what if they're popular?? You're basically saying that any song that is really liked by people and DJs alike is commercial....which is sh*t. Go on a pop radio station, and THAT top 10 is commercial. Don't go around criticizing these DJs until YOU can even half-measure up to them. Get off your high-horse, get that stick out of your ass, and accept the fact that theres are always going to be popular DJs who DO have skill and that you'll probably never be able to be as succesful as they are, judging by your sh*tty attitude. 'Cause no one wants to be around a narcissistic, egotistical, hypocritical whiner
Have a good New Years!

DJohn, I take it you've not heard armin spin live this year, as you wouldn't be saying he's commericial if you have.
As Starglider said, the top 20 was voted by the listeners on his commercial radio station FFS. Armin very rarely plays the tunes in clubs that he plays on ASOT (I've never heard him play southern sun btw), and when he does, he only chooses the best ones, to say he's gone commercial is ridiculous. Armins worked his fucking arse off to get where he has this year, he hasn't had the help of some high priced PR guy, he's done it thru sheer hardwork, churning out quality tracks one after another, playing at every major event and festival in europe, a residency at Gatecrasher, gigs at passion, godskitchen, slinky etc... pretty much every weekend.
when you've got a clue, share it, until then, shut the fuck up
good day

Ok. First off, there's no need to call each other names here. I just stated my opinion. If that offends you(and you know who I'm talking about) then that's your loss. In this so called community, I merely stated what I thought. If that's a crime, then boo hoo. Go cry somewhere else.
Second, I never, ever criticized other people's OPINIONS...debating whether AvB is commercial or not is based on hard facts, not tastes. I merely stated what I believe to be true. And yes, whether you like it or not, in the world of electronica and trance, he is about as commercial as Nelly is in rap and radio hip hop.
Third, my point on his ASOT Top 20 is self explained...he plays the Top 20 most popular tunes not the top 20 most stand out, innovative or whatever tunes. POPULAR. And to me, to hear people say that AvB isn't commercial and to see him doing shit like Top 20 is kinda...dumb. I don't understand how you see something that's right in front of your eyes, and deny it. Again, facts, not opinions.
Fourth, I have no disrespect for any one of these DJs. I praise them for their hard work and where they have reached because of their work ethic. They certainly do earn their rights as superstars, but to idolize them as gods and to hear the same shit: "...Armin is GOD! Tiesto is GOD! Ferry Corsten is totally awesome!..." when they've done nothing superbly innovative other than spin anthems after another, kinda gets to you...yeah, occasionally the'll spit out good tunes, but when tunes like Solstice and Yet Another Day get praise as tunes of the year, you start wondering...especially being an amateur, you wonder why how they can get away by playing overplayed tunes, and your mix tapes can't get even one response when they show far more creativity and talent then some of these so called "DJs"...I've heard some of these tunes and mixes, and there's alot more hidden gold on this board alone then the "masters" we tend to lose ourselves in.
Again, I said it before and said it again, but I don't mean to offend any body for anymatter...it's opinions that make us who we are. I'll say this too...I love trance...all kindsa trance, and I have much love and respect for the DJs that we are squabbling over about. But when you see a trend as obvious as a sun in the dark, and people mindlessly follow it, you distance yourself from everything and look at the picture and come to a conclusion. The reason why you people see me as trying to be "all that" is merely because I don't follow the euro trance trend...I choose to isolate my self, and it's a bad and good thing at the same time.
And that's all I did. Distance, look, and come to a conclusion. I guess you people don't see it that way, and I'm sorry about that, but that's just what I did.
Happy New Years.
