I am hopeful it will still go ahead, alcohol and hard drugs are a far bigger problem and the police should know this.

The police tried to ban the Boat from doing all-you-can-drink and 20p a pint deals every week because of violence but they failed and the deals continue. All the Wetherspoons pubs in the area are doing 50p a pint on Theakstons and all sorts of other cheap deals, but the police didn't bother to intervene this time.

Newcastle is trying to regenerate itself and we simply need tourism for this to happen. Any big events are welcome and I'm sure the council recognise this. There is quite a lot of money riding on our reputation, the council want to win the capital of culture award pretty badly, it has a 3 billion quid reward and Newcastle are competing with only a few cities left. If these events get cancelled it will be a step back into the gutter for the city IMO, but I am optimistic that they will go ahead. When big events happen in Newcastle our reputation grows, and to be honest how many people in the rest of the country actually heard about that lad dying? It's not exactly worthy of the national news is it.

I believe it is in the city's interests to welcome any event organisers with open arms, espescially after the police and the 2001 Newcastle Love Parade fiasco. The police have ruined enough things around here, bunch of cocksuckers!

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of uppers, downers, laughers, screamers... Also, a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls. Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get into a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can. The only thing that really worried me was the ether. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge, and I knew we'd get into that rotten stuff pretty soon.

Nice one!!! - its about time the fuckin politicians and police who run this country realise that stopping an event wont stop any of the people who were going to attend that event taking drugs on that night or any other.

As mentioned earlier though, because of the high profile nature of the last death, expect a greater police presence this time - if only for show.

PS. the love parade fiasco was a fucking joke! Sort it newcastle!

The Love Parade cancellation was down to the police and the council. The council didn't have a clue how to organise it and didn't even negotiate with the police how to control the crowds. When they finally did discuss things, a couple of days before the event, the police decided it could not go ahead. Once again police concerns about safety ruined the day.
