DJ_Shockwav is right on. Its all about who you know. I feel very priviledged to have gotten my first club gig after only 5 months of spinning while my other friends, some that had been spinning years, had not a single one. This is simply because I got to know a promoter through one of my friends. He continues to be the only reason I get gigs. He has helped another one of my friends too who is just as new to spinning as I am. This guy is getting gigs all over the place now. Then once you get started, everything begins to snowball. You meet other DJs at gigs, those that spin before and after you, and they in turn shoot the shit with you and before you know it your friends with them and they want you for gigs too. Its that whole getting your foot in the door thing. We have all seen the horrible ass DJs up on the decks and wondered WTF is up with that. Garaunteed he is close friends with the promoter or knows someone running the show. My advice is to try to meet and talk with as many people as you can at parties and shows and someday, you'll meet the right person and they will get you started.
