yes, but when u stick ur hand in the bucket u will pick up a red ball or a blue ball. only 2 outcomes.

1.the ball in my hand is blue [true or false]

2.the ball in my hand is red [true or false]

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah but its kinda stupid cause ultimately everything(!) can be asked in such a "dualistic" 50/50 manner. I mean.."wil there be 40 degrees tomorrow?" is a pure yes or no question but in the context of asking it in mid-europe, in January you'll get a very low probabilty.
other such SO-called-50/50-questions questions:

Will Ian van dahl's next tack be sophisticated?

Is britney spears still a virgin?

Will the US attack Iraq?

Does a bear shit in the woods?

Shouldnt I go to sleep instead of writing pointless posts at 3 am?

good night

To me it is sounding like you are make an arguement that you think is right.

Yes you dip the hand in to get the ball and it is one or the other.... that is if you are successfull after 2 tries. but the odds are not in your favor!!!

I am done arguing tho.... you dont wanna budge on your stance and dealing mentality like this on a daily basis isnt what i call 'being at home relaxing'

So believe what u wanna believe bud.... you are one against many

or in your words you or we are:

right [true/false]
wrong [true/false]

lookie there!! 50/50 chance!

lol...no i agree i was wording it incorrectly .... with stuff like these questions there are only two possible outcomes, no matter what the chances of one of those outcomes happening is ... i was wrong by using the 50/50 statement ... thanks again to Insomneac

technically, yes. but each of the true/false outcomes has a different chance of happening, therefore we say the outcome of each ball(assigned the probability of "true" for that ball) is not 50%

ugh... reminds me of math 12...

anyways...

there are 2 possible combinations in total...
event A. Hitting the jackpot
event B. Not hitting the Jackpot

There are equal amounts of different events and that is true...

However... you cannot say it is 50/50 because 50/50 in mathematical terms means that there is 50% in getting one event and 50% in getting another event.

probability is defined as : (the number of favourable outcomes) / (the total number of outcomes) *assuming the outcomes are equally probable

so therefore... the chance of hitting the jackpot is defined as:
1/13 million and something

on another note...
wow... didn't know there were so many smart TA's on here

ok for the last time...i wasnt looking for the probility that the ticket was a winner ..... i was making a point that the ticket can only have two outcomes, winner or loser. i worded this incorrectly by saying 50/50 (i made the mistake). thank you everyone for your input

ok I been checking this thread out my conclusion

Something that is impossible or that will happen is a 50/50 chance and you can say that about anyting. (it will happen or not)

50/50 theory-----
ball went in hole, ball did not go in hall
I thurned into a cricket, I did not turn into a cricket

But an outcome of something impossible or possible coming out in a favor you want(winning the lottery, having Chirsitna A at your door step, playing with freakin mokey's in a zoo) has that 1 out of 10000000000 whatever amount or 0 because then it can't happen

outcome of it happening because I want it to-----
want to turn into a cricket....0 but you can say so its 50/50
christina ag at my door step....1/100000
winning lottery......1/6 million
play with monkey....1/1000000000

I can say yes or no to anything thats 50/50

but winning the lottery is not because thats not a yes or no descion

thats not a win or lose situation. its not just you playing. Many other people play and now its larger than 50/50 chance anyway

if you play the lottery once and lose then you play again and win then you had a 50/50 chance of winning

some people play their whole lives and never win ..is that 50/50 chance
