I was hanging out with my girlfriend today, and since we've been discussing it for a long time, I finally taught her how to mix properly.
She learned the idea behind 4/4 structure in like 5 minutes, and mixed two house songs together flawlessly on a cue point a couple minutes later.. Insane. I helped her with beatmatching, but somehow she could still tell which song was playing faster, and slowed it down by touching the platter.
This was her first attempt ever attempt at mixing.. Needless to say, thats badass I wish there were more girl DJs.. So many talented women out there, so few of them do this If only MY first time was as easy.. I was horrible for 5-6 months, and she did more in 20 minutes than I did in a month when I first started out.
Oh another thing about her.. When we went to see Sasha on Halloween, she trainspotted "Fluke - Hang Tough" before anyone else did. She was like "Hey, wasn't that song on Sasha's August Kiss100 mix?" Me and my friend looked at each other like "oh shit, it is.." How many people can claim their girl can trainspot a Sasha tune before a bunch of guys can?

I let my girlfreind have a go once but she broke the needle the silly old ****. That was the last time I let her touch them.
I let my older brother have a go and he slammed ther crossfader so hard he broke the pin and ruined the mixer as I could'nt get a spare part.
But worse of all I let my younger brother have a go and he started mixing some dirty garage records. He was promptly removed and his shitty records have been banned from my decks and bannashed from my room for life.

wow.. you guys are mean! some people are really picky about their decks.. i let anyone who wants to mix on them give it a go, i don't care. I remember being a wannabee DJ and just hoping someone would let me spin, and loving that half hour i got on their beloved decks.
so now, i let other people use mine. i mean, they are built like tanks, what can they do to them? maybe drop the needle, but how much is a new stylus?
i say if your gonna trust the girl with your cock, then by all means let her use your decks?
of course, i put all my really good records away when i let friends mix. |
I agree if proper ethicate is used.
- Bring your own records
- bring your own personal monitors
- have stylii or carts to offer on ocassion. I ain't gonna use em,
but at least offer. These cost money $70ea.
- respect my records (don't start fishing around and spinning my
records at will.MOST IMPORTANT... My best tunes I save for BIG systems. Just because I didn't play and deteriorate them that night doesn't mean you can. If I have ever ripped my record off my wheel from you, it is because you are an asshole not me.
The Base and platter are built like a Tank but your forgetting the most important Item.... The Tone-Arm, These are fragile and if miss used will ruin the Gimball Suspension's Bearings (those little needle screws on the pivot point adjust the bearings BUT NEVER ADJUST THOSE SCREWS. They are not user adjustable but require service/replacement from Tech/Pana. If they are loose consider the tone-arm toast. You can adjust them at this point, but trust me they get worse real fast!!! To buy a new arm is cheap, but replacing it is a bitch. 4 or 5 little tedious wires to solder
Cheers
