I'm an OM freak so you won't find anything about integrated cartridges here.

You're just starting, so go with these:

STANTON 520-SK2 or STANTON 505-SK2...these come premounted and are cheap to replace. I recommend you use these at home when you practice and listen. I keep a pair of 520-SK2s at home for practicing.

The premounted packages for the 520-SK2s are about $90 and $80 for the 505-SK2s. They are premounted nothing other than Stanton H4 Headshells.

When you advance, go with these:

ORTOFON OM DJ-S or OM-NCS...these are better for the club/rave enviroment and recording in studio. I have a pair of OM-NCS mounted on Technics Headshells.

These you'll have to mount yourself. Mounting isn't a difficult task. It's quite easy. I think a lot of DJs avoid standard cartridges because they don't know how to mount carts. I like the OMs, 'cuz they are a bit heavier which allows for better tracking. It's kind of like driving a manual shift car against an automatic. You can fine tune the weight of the needle better.

I would avoid the SHURE M44-7s. These are excellent needles when they come to output, but these needles will eat out your records faster and you'll have to replace them more often. They're not cheap to replace. If you love your records and want them to live a long life, you should avoid the M44-7s!

Hope that helps.

never used the M44-7s, but i have the M44-Gs and i love them. i had stanton trackmasters and groovemasters before them and now i am all about the shure's. i've got less than 2 grams of weight on them and i have no skipping at all.

I just got my two TT's (off ebay). So they came with differant carts. The Trackmaster II SK seems fine, and the Stanton 890 seems fine as well... I'd rather have them both be Trackmasters though. Of course, I've never used other carts, so who knows... I have the weight set to 2.5g, and they seem pretty stable. Since I'm new, I am sorta heavy handed, and they do well.
