Heheh, I'll have to chime in and say that the Creative Sound Blaster Live! and Audigy series (but not the Audigy2) sound cards sux0r! Crappy drivers, serious compatibility issues... blech.

back to the discussion, about audigy: i love mine... no problems at all.

worst hardware in my opinion, software modems...christ working tech support at an isp, dealing with at least 30 calls a day with people that have shitty modems and shitty drivers....its never their fault... my ass.

I second software modems. WTF? I bought when when I didn't know much about modems. ohh the headaches on my 14.4 with all those errors.

trackballs... those are annoying. why are we still using floppies? They're so slow and so easily damaged. Tape drives?

oi, i could rant about my slow computer for ages, but i'll be rather quick

sis530 video card. totally and completely SUCKS.

however, i have an onboard soundcard and it sounds better than a creative soundblaster (some shoddy one though). mine has much better highs, but weaker bass though. the soundblaster has so much bass, i had to turn down all the bass in winamp equalizer.

well, anyway, crap hardware is mostly the hardware that comes with retail pcs, like dell, gateway, compaq, etc. i have an ibm and while it may not be a total piece of junk, it's a major one. how the hell do you manage to provide enough space for only 3 HDD / CD-R drives instead of 4 (same with power connectors) and why would they do that???

Tape drives aren't crap, wtf are you on over there, can you propose a better backup device for archives where you are backing up systems of many many gigabytes every single day? I'd like to see you try swapping in CDs.

PCI vid cards are great, can anyone point out a mobo that has multiple AGP ports on it so I can run a dual monitor setup, go on.
Admittedly some of them are absolute shite (Tseng labs, older SiS cards...)

I have no probs with my SB Live 5.1, but then again I have a speaker set that is made by creative, and I know how the dsp in the emu10k1 chip on it works and can program it to tweak stuff.

It comes down to knowing how your hardware interacts with each other piece and avoiding making decisions where you introduce conflicts.

Oh and PCChips mobos suck hardcore, I'd agree on that one

older proprietary cases are a bitch to work with, like IBM, HP, Compaq, Dell etc. It's always nice to have to remove the power supply, mobo, and everything else in the case just to replace a HD.

the vid card thing is retarded...pci cards are shit. just get an agp card that supports more than one monitor. you'll be much happier.

I definitely agree with soft modems, a total piece of crap.
I also don't like any onboard devices.
And I hate ASUS, First I had their SCSI controller, it crashed every computer I plugged it into, then I had their motherboard, which died few months after buying. Then I bought their graphics card which was totally overheating, and in the end it developed some defect, so now I have all these weird shadows all over the screen.
