I own 2 sets of headphones.

MDR V700DJ for uses of mixing in a club. You dont need high fidelity in a club. You need high power handling so you can que things up

MDR V6 These are for studio usage here. Since i dont own any mackie studio monitors yet i use these headphones to give me sound. They have clean and tight bass responce and crisp clear highs. They are leaps and bounds better than the v700 series if you are into high fidelity.

i have a pair of brand new (well they were when i 'aquired' them) v700's and i didnt pay a dime for them... you can pick up a 'used' pair off of eBay for 70.00 USD (120-160ish CDN?). A word of caution though, they arent the most durable things in the world, despite their 'rugged' appearance, the little cuffings on them tend to crack after a very very short while (i was using them as listening headphones for ~ 3 mos b4 they got fuct) and if you dont use some superglue to seal the crack they eventually fall apart (see: mine). Sound quality is decent.. just as good as a decent pair of loudspeakers.. but they get real damn loud if you hook them up using a 1/4inch plug (what they are made for).. overall.. a good price for them is free, an okay price is prolly 70 USD

Not me. Trouble is, you'll need a multi-band equalizer just to even make the MDR-V700DJ 'listenable'. But most portables have a rudimentary equalizer that actually adds more sound-muddying bass, and many audiophile high-end systems have no equalizer at all - not even bass or treble controls. Without an equalizer, the MDR-V700DJ is very unbalanced-sounding, and the highs are almost nonexistent. The mid-bass and upper-bass almost completely overpowers all of the other sounds. (With a 10-band equalizer, I've found the best balance from the MDR-V700DJ by turning up all of the higher frequencies from 2 kHz on up all the way to maximum, and turning down the 125 and 250 Hz controls halfway between minimum and 'flat', and turning up the 31 Hz control halfway between 'flat' and maximum.)

The truth is, the MDR-V700DJ is okay for DJing - but for listening to music under any circumstances, there are far better choices than the MDR-V700DJ at any price.
