Half of them are placebos and the other half totally fuck with your mind. I guess if you're in a really bad state of mind, it might offer some respite... but I think it's more important to really try to deal with the issues that are at the root of the problem, rather than trying to take the quick and easy, but ultimately less satisfying and more expensive, solution.

My brother was diagnosed with depression four years ago. Since then, he's been on Prozac, Zoloft, and now, Celexia. None of them have had any substantial impact on his condition, and he absolutely hates taking them. These medications might be good for correcting a simple chemical imbalance, but I think most depressed people won't find them to be a permanent answer to their hopes and dreams of a better life.

Honestly, I'm getting over depression now and for some reason it feels weird. Why is it that once a depressed person is happy he misses being depressed? For some reason now that someone is making me happy and other things in life are making me happy I feel that it would be no problem to go back to being depressed and I feel that I kinda miss it. Then again i was also an alcoholic before but what exactly can I do just let the hapiness continue until the feeling of missing the depression disapears or do I have to do something else?

trance_n_dance, the mind naturally resists change of any kind. You'll eventually get used to being "normal" again and won't miss feeling depressed.

I personally think that a person should try to work out their underlying emotional issues before taking medication for them. The only time medication is SUPPOSED to be prescribed is if the person has chemical imbalances and even if they had no problems with their lives they would still be fucked up.

The point of medication is to allow people to do this. When a person is suffering from depression it can consume them so much they are unable to see the bigger picture. Medication can help put them in a position where they can begin to sort themselves out.

i think medication is over prescribed in the US. doctors seem to throw everyone on these magic pills just because they are a little upset. pills dont solve problems..they just help mask them.
i think there are better ways to solve our problems. pills should only be used on people who are truely mentally ill.
