However - I reckon that the boundaries are so blurred within the term 'progressive' when it applys to dance music. So the difference between between prog' house and prog' trance really is up to the individual.

Here is something that has always boggled my mind...

When it comes to typical house, I don't like it at all. I really hate the repetitive nature of it (just not my style), I'm a bit of an uplifting/melodic whore and that's what my tastes like. However, I've recently started liking some... stuff that I'll just label as general "progressive", like:

iio - At the End (Scumfrog Remix)
Holden vs. Thompson - Nothing (93 Returning Mix)
Junkie XL - Breezer
Leama - Requium for a Dream

Some people call this progressive house, however I really fail to see the house nature of the songs... I seem to think of them more closely related to trance than house, but that's just me... same with Nick Warren's livesets! I love Way Out West, and I've always associated them with trance, but it seems they're labelled as house. Maybe I just suck, lol.

wow does some really trancey remixes but in essence their music is prog house based. they incorportated different layers of synth/bass and samples and have multiple layers of melody rather than one distinctive melody... but b/c their music varies alot, its hard to pin point what they are classed as...

personally i find normal house dire but i love prog house. i dunno, im stranger like that

You see this was what I was getting at - its all down to individual interpretation of what track fits what genre.

Um, there is no such thing as progressive house or progressive trance. It's all just progressive.

Progressive music has a house beat (could be breaks though such as a Hybrid production) and has sounds not usually associated with straight-up house or standard trance.

That said, a progressive track can be trancy. I'd consider Holden's "Nothing" trancy.

Bottom line, don't worry about classification. The only reason for classification is so that record stores can organize their vinyl. Buy records you like and don't worry about how others classify your music.

Nah prog trance isn't all that bad sometimes, stuff like Mara owns, and some vocal prog songs are good too, but I don't rate Holden etc as much as others, imo Breaks artists like Hybrid & WoW are better
