why do you say this? is it because with cds, they can carry around teh same crate as avb or tiesto or what not. i think it is a benefit to the crowd you are playing for. also, it prevents those long searches for older out of print vinyls taht may take over a year to find (trust me, took me two years to find twenty something - sugar rush on vinyl). i say it isnt the tunes you mix that makes you l33t, it is how you mix that makes you l33t. someone can have cdjs and all the promos and shit in the world, but if they cant mix well, they suck. and also, someone up there put you cant mix as well on them, they are exact same as vinyl turntables, new cdj1000 from pioneer also lets you scratch. i just dont understand why people hate djs who use cdjs, pvd uses it, lets all hate on him, he must think he is l33t

can you hear a big difference in sound on a cd compared to vinyl? aren't vinyls supposed to be warm sounding compared cd? I wonder if you can notice a difference on a big sound system?

I agree with you man, I think they're retards. But there's a fairly large group of people who think it's cool or old-school or whatever to bash them, and then come up with dumb reasons to back it up. But really, they're just looking for something to bash so that they can feel better about themselves.

Hm...I'm confused here. Are you talking about being against DJs who only use CDJs or DJs that use CDJs in addition to vinyl turntables? I think everyone would agree that if you have turntables, its ok to have a CDJ in addition to them in order to play older, rare, tunes but the majority of their songs are played on vinyl. Although it's ok to DJ with only CDJs, these people get less respect because a lot of these kinds of DJs use mainly CD-Rs, and are therefore not supporting the industry. When I think of someone who only uses CDJs, I think of someone who DJs at a bowling alley or something...you might as well just use your computer.

Could you tell me what the hell is so wrong about mixing on PC?

Traktor DJ Studio, a MIDI controller, a sound card with two stereo outputs, and an external mixer is what I have. I really can't understand how the media of which the sound sources from, can have the greatest impact on your mixing abilites. Infact, on computers and CD's, you are abel to align the tracks with ms. precision. You also have ton's of extra functions.

I do own an turntable I just use for fun. Dropping a track at a cue at for example the second baseline, is quite more difficult to do than on a PC/CD-player. Playing two vinyls, beatmatching them, and just snap the crossfader over to the center, is something everyone can do. Just as one the computer, you could set it to beatmatch, and then slip the crossfader to center. This doesn't mean that that way of mixing sucks.

I really do laugh at all of you Sir-KnowItAlls that condemn this kind of mixing. You really don't grasp the sillyness of thinking two stupid tables with rotating plastic can outcompete everything in this world.

What is so wrong about buying Armin's two latest singles, and mixing them on my computer?

It's kind of ironic when you think over it, alle these tracks are made on computers, and with help from computer technology. But when it comes to mixing them on their original platform...

95%+ of them couldn't hear the difference anyway. It's the performance quality that matters, not how its done.

Humm I dunno I think it's "image" really.
I think that if the mixing sounds good it shouldn't depend on the media. I'm a cdj and I buy everything online overseas and that means spending 8€ or something on each CDS, the same for Vinyl I guess.
I also think that some people say that just to look cool (my opinion only don't flame me for this) and it's just because it's the traditional way, maybe vinyl people feel cheated on stuff like Pioneer CDJ1000 or CDJ800, but I think that music and technology must go forward and people should realize that.
Cheers!

VINYL: here to stay?

why do people hate on CDJ's?

its just like why do people dislike artificial flavoring and artificial fibres and answered simply. It;s not real!!! i.e. cd-djing is emulating a 'real' dj

even if they can do it better, or more conveniently or what not.. say what you say, but seeing somebody with a little 5"x5inch box plugged into a rack of digital fx processors and whatnot is not *nearly* as awe inspiring or.. interesting as watching somebody manipulate big floppy pieces of vinyl) dj'ing is half about the music and half about the show they put on (IMO)..

you could have used common sense to figure that out!

I think its just kind of a culture thing mostly, before all the new cd mixing and cue point stuff came out (and 'vinyl' emulators which allow scratching and what not (CDJ1000?) it used to be just.. better to use vinyl, now its even i guess...

ask yourself.. if cd DJing technology is so much better, why is it trying to act like 'vinyl' DJing.. (followers cant be leaders)

i agree with benoitfan.
it completely destroys the concept of a dj.
soon enough (though this is an xtreme view) youd have geekish computer freaks spinning with crazed homemade programs off their computers back home. <-- ok that was lame.

honestly it doesnt make sense since everything else about the music is lots of times synthesized. id rather see a dj spin vinyls though

Heheheh another one of these topics =P

Personally,,, I don't like cds nor do I respect a DJ who plays an entire set of cds at a club or party. I can't stand when I see empty turntables with cd booklets on top of them Although I don't think there is a problem play a few tracks here and there,,, just not and entire set. Also I find that the sound quality is usually pretty shitty compared to vinyl and the mixes not usually as good,,, but it's just my opinion so who cares.

vinyl is probably more reliable when spinning. People wouldnt want to hear skipping during a set.
