yeh man all these crackers here on TA with all these emotional problems. damm, deal with it! joking well, for me, trance gets me in a dreamy mood, helps me think positive when i'm thinking negative

i'm pretty stable though, i get down sometimes with things that I cant control, but snap out of it fast, without the need for trance.

Most people get fucked up by:-

- Extreme events that cause stress - loss of love - someone close etc
- Excessive hard drug taking and subsequent addictions - I'm talking coke and heroin here.
- Being weak minded and allowing themselves to be influenced by media sources (violent films/music etc).
- A genetic pre-disposition to mental illness.
- A childhood of abuse (just look at Michael Jackson)

- it's soothing when you're tired
- it can also be aggravating when you're tired (since its so bass, beat, and synth heavy)
- uplifting when things are going well in your life at that moment
- semi-depressive when you're at a low in your life

^ somtimes or usually, but not always ^

To answer Kirbtastic's question, I dont think that lunatics/freaks/psychos/crazed/weirdos are attracted to trance per say. I think most people have many insecurities and worries and the recent posts or general "psycho" posts for that matter are simply a mere indication of this universal truth. Looking at the surface of people it certainly might not seem like they have these insecurities, but in general most people never have it as together as they come off to.

I think the volume of "psycho" posts is certainly not alarming considering how many people post on this forum - you're loooking at how many different "psycho" posters - 50, 60 maybe? Probably thats an overestimate. Unusual/unpleasant things always stand out more and seem more frequent then they really are.

While I'll concede that the people like the one that posted plans about killing kids at school with nail bombs and cyanide gas or the dude who said "i think i have a fetish for gore and blood and brutally killing ppl" are seriously FUCKED UP,

I'd also say that posts about women trouble or depression or similar topics like that are nothing alarming or abnormal and I'd say most of the people that post stuff like that are really nice people who are just trying to find answers cause their tired of failing/worrying.

Think about it, who's most likely to be depressed, a psycho or some nice person who is just saddened by life cause he finds little meaning in it or has just been too nice and has been walked over too often and now they are not only depressed but also have low self esteem which escalates the depression. Who's more likely to have women trouble, true psychos who don't give a fuck usually (exactly what women want) or the nicest of guys who get used and taken for suckers (women don’t want nice guys, fact).

To reiterate I don’t think there is something about trance that attracts "psychos" or emotionally disturbed people to it BUT I do think that there is something about trance that attracts thoughtful people to it. And aren't "psychos" so often intelligent/smart/thoughtful; aren't emotionally disturbed people so often worrysome/thoughtful/overanalytical? There is actually a difference there and that’s my point.

I would also very much argue that people that listen to rock also are the same type of worried/thoughtful crowd as those that listen to trance - this should be pretty obvious I think - just listen to some decent rock melody with decent rock lyrics.

Same thing goes for techno or classical or ambient. I think there is something about electronic music in general that attracts the thoughtful person to it and this something superficially I'd say is the emotional or tranzy melody and the sometimes touching lyrics. For rock its probably to a lesser extent the melody and much more the lyrics.

For me, what gets me thinking is uplifting trance, psy trance, ambient, techno. I love prog trance or prog house too but they don't do anything emotionally for me, they're just great ear candy and an essential part of my trance library. For others I'm sure its different.

That’s about all I have to say, bleh.

Again u started to explain about why trance would have an effect on someone. I also dont understand why u said that trance would only have a detrimental effect on someone with a high IQ or why you brought up stastics on this subject.

once again i was only wondering if people with certain personalities (i.e. depression or homicidal tendacies) are drawn to trance. i think photo_bot explained it best when he said "lunatics stand out more so u they make it seem like everyones crazy"

Easy son - you are turning this into a flame thread.
Read the IQ bit again - you may get it.

In a Nutshell:-
Most mass murderers etc have high IQ's.
Assumption 1 - that trance needs to be understood
Assumption 2 - That due to its 'complexity' trance requires a high IQ to be understood.
Therefore those that understand trance have a higher chance of having emotional/social disorders.

Now consider that trance does not need to be understood - (which is what I believe) and feed it through that process above and you will realise that No trance does not cause emotional/social problems due to its complexity (again, what I believe).

Just one of my theories.

And the Damn I'm good statement is known as 'humour'. Its a concept whereby a statement/action by someone is interpreted as amusing by someone else - you should try it sometime.

all i was saying that a lot on us on the forums seem to have a lot more in common than a love of trance. u see a lot of posts about depression and suicide and now after reading that post about killing people and many people agreeing with the thread starter i started to wonder if trance attracts people with certain personality traits. i also noticed that many of the people who post where they work or go to school all seem to be computer related, but that could aslo be since this is a internet based forum..people who are more into computers are more likely to post here.

there are many types of trance..uplifting, ambient, hard...all seemed to be based on emotion and definately convey that emotion to me when i listen to them. i might be ignorant to this, but i dont think that rock, rap or pop have that many different styles in them.
i know that rock has speed or death metal, top 40 or alternative. people who listen to trance, listen to all the different styles, but maybe have a favorite style. i know people who only listen to rock, but would never listen to death metal..which is a form of rock.

im not trying to stereotype all people that listen to trance and put them in a little box and if that is the message that people are getting from thsi post, maybe im not explaining myself well enough, so forgive me.

i think all music is emotional...music in its essence is a form of human expression, therefore, an emotion. it's hard to have music with NO meaning at all....yes, even top40 songs have meaning within the lyrics, albeit cliched and superficial. as for differences within a genre, every style changes over time. just as trance has developed into its subgenres, hiphop has changed from its old skool sound to wut we hear today. same with rock. same with classical...and probably the same with every other genre of music. and that's not even getting into the contemporary styles of music, such as avant-garde, leftist type deals. and as for people who listen to rock but not death metal, well...it's like why some uplifting trance heads dun listen to happy hardcore, which in essence is basically trance sped up to 180-200 bpm and with some poppy lyrics thrown over it.

as for trance attracting people with emotional problems (which i hope is what your question is), i agree that within any social group there are almost always those who are more unhappy and disturbed then others. and that those are the ones that seem to stick out more. but i believe with any type of music, it attracts its crowd. i'm pretty sure there are some disturbed people who love classical music. just as there are those who are disturbed who love trance....and rock...and hiphop...and...you get the point.

my two cents...
