Ultra highspeed, what a joke, 3 megabits compared to 1 megabit, with less than 20% of that much upstream, woohoo. Industry-standard cable modems are capable of 54 megabits, which is almost as fast as a T3, but they'll never offer that much, and why? Because the U.S. government is fucking stupid, that's why. If anyone out there has actually read the regulations on ISPs, you know what I'm talking about.

No offense meant to you at all E*Master, I'd pay for that too if I could afford it, but it's still a damn ripoff, and I'm tired and bored and pissed off at Sympatico. BTW UltraHighSpeed isn't a T1, it's just DSL with higher caps (T1's cost upwards of $1000/mo).

So there you go dude, you answered your own questioned. Because you and your bro are downloading all the time, you're using a lot of bandwith. And trust me when i say, anything higher than rogers is gonna cost you 70bucks and up. t1,t3, oc3 connections are way too expensive. Why hub four computers? two is more than enough. Its all about bandwith man.

I heard that too, all you have to do is modify your modem a bit to get it working but Rogers would catch you eventually and theres probably a hefty fine for it and you'd get banned from their service.

They won't ban you, since you are unable to modify your modem anymore.. you could do that with older modems and I know I did too, but since they figured that people are doing it they put a stop to it somehow, so you can't get that anymore.

Yeah, ok let me explain this for anyone who cares (I'm sure most don't but one or two people might):

Cable modems (DOCSIS, industry standard) have been capable of 36/10 Mbps up/down since 1998, since then the standard has been improved and they are capable of a lot more. The reason nobody ever sees that much is because (a) they WHORE the connection out and you share with 10 billion people, and (b) they CAP it so they can save a few bucks when there isn't any WHORING going on.

They used to actually modify the modems and cap them internally, but ever since online tutorials started getting published about how to uncap the modems, they started doing caps on the server instead of on the modems. There were some software patches to circumvent those too, but the cable companies caught on to those damn fast.

So sorry to disappoint, but if you want more bandwidth you'll have to pay the ripoff prices until the day when we actually see an educated politician in office (i.e. never).

Get a bigger allowance from daddy-big-bucks and get your own T1...

(I'm joking of course...)

One of you could think about being on Cable while the other is on DSL...
but for that price you might as well up your existing connection.

If they service your area, try Cogeco. Cable's a good way to go and I've never had downloading problems with Cogeco. I would not recommend Bell Sympatico's High Speed Edition.

A speed test link a friend of mine sent me:
Speed Test
