I started at about 11:40. The first tunes were
Conductor & Cowboy - Feeling this way (Solar stone mix)
Misja Helsloot - First Second
Bass Tarts - Summer in Space
Lange - Drifting Away (Sunset Dub)
Three Drives - Carrera 2
En Motion - Truth (Pulser mix)
in particular order.
The rest included
Darren Tate - Let the light shine in
Above & Beyond - Far From in Love
Accadia - Blind Visions
Boccacio Life - Secret Wish (Lange mix)
Trance De Tour - Wan Wu

I've played some bits of proggy stuffs in my set in my other gigs but people just kept saying they want things harder and i shouldn't bother with it. Only thing i don't understand here is just why do they want trance with no breakdown! Really shouldn't have bothered making flyers and promoting the night at all. Anyway, I've snapped out of this. Gotta move on.

TranceGeek, you brought up a very good point imo!!

It's so easy to be misled by listening to sets by DJ's like PVD or Armin, or even Tiesto who, like TranceGeek said, already had a warmup DJ before them and are thus liable to play peak trance.

Another great point - start buying different genres of records, if you plan on spinning live. This is also what TranceGeek said.

Because, if you plan to be a peak time DJ, it just won't work that way, you usually have to start as a warmup DJ, doing little sets etc, proving your worth and so on.

I'm not directing this to you directly, Narcissus, but to aspiring DJ's in general (me included ).

yea, my first demo cd was mixed for an opening slot
i started off easy and then for the last half hour or so, built the energy up so that my set climaxed with the last track

but now i do cds that are for the "headliner" spots

ok here is my two cents....
as much as i love breakdowns, i think the average "clubber" goes to a club to hear good music and dance. see i dont mind going to a club and just listening to music but if i were dancing, i would get annoyed when every song breaks down and id have to just stand there awkwardly until it picks back up youknow? plus i only know a bit of liquid and id get tired of doing the same move for each song : P it would make myself feel really bad

good point but it also depends on the crowd and you could also build your set and then give them a breakdown than they will go mad ;d

I guess it depends on the breakdowns.....if they are short, then it would be OK. If you play something like Meo's Sleepless.....omg, that is a long f*cking ass breakdown.

one of the things that been touched on in this thread is that noone knows how to play a warmup set anymore!!!

everyone want to play a peak-time set and get all the 'big tunes' out to seem like they are the best/most upfront etc. and try to out-do the other DJs. doesnt work like that.

im not going to go into a full-scale rant over this but its something that really pisses me off. i witness it far too often.

^^^ totally agree with you...

should we hijack this thread and make it into a rant about clueless dipshit dj's that have no respect for the headliners?

pls say yes...

then you failed to read my post where i stated that when i started out i made my demos for an opening slot
i still do crank out the odd opening slot cd
but now my cds are more for the prime slots
just letting the promoters know i can carry a set all the way through
cause they already know i can open

Hey im the master of the warm up set........
wanna some tracks id play?
Lemon 8 - newyork
Vince Watson - bubbles
dot alison - were only science(slam remix)
amber - anway(that kid chris remix)
quiver - twist and shout
aquaculute - dont play the game
josh gabriel - wave 3
HIGHROLLERZ - Highrollerz
hybrid - finished symphony
towards the in i may play some stuff that is a few months old yet still big but nothing brand new that the next dj may wanna spin.
Andy hunter - amazing(fade mix)
King Unique - two months off.
Filterheads - protection
yahel - you feel
armin van buren - yet another day
it depends on the club/ the night/ the next dj/
sometimes i spin breaks
sometimes trance
all depends a good dj can spin any music and read any crowd.. when i first started buying records i didnt know the genres sooo i got everything that sounded good from dnb to breaks to trance to house...what ever sounded good....then i forgot that for bout a year and just bought trance/prog but the past 8 or 9 months i just buy what sounds good and ya know what my sets are fucking awesome.. noone should limit themself to one genre my advice is buy what sounds good to you....and play what you feel like..not what may mix the best or what ever cuzz half the time the crowd doesnt give a shit how good you mix...have fun....more fun...and some more fun cuzz music is all about expression...of your self...
