What kind of source would one realistically need to do this? Lots of the cheap/badly produced DVD-Audio disks tend to simply put one instrument in each speaker.. what could a DJ do with some sort of multichannel technology? Any idea how it would work? What sort of effects could be done to a pre-existing DVD-Audio or SACD disk that is already playing in multichannel? What about mixing samples individually into different channels?
Multichannel SACD's *tend* to be "meant" to reproduce a seamless image, IE, you can't tell that the music is coming from 5 speakers, because it immerses you naturally.. but a DJ wouldn't want that, would they? They would want a strong channel seperation, so you can control exactly whats coming from where.. it'd be too complicated otherwise..

Has anyone seen Blue Man Group live? Or heard the DD5.1 or DVD-Audio mix in full surround sound? I'm thinking that might provide *some* inspiration.. the question is, how to do that live with just a bunch of digital equipment and some ingenuity..
