I've also got a Yamaha W5, it's a hardware sequencer, about 5 years old but does still play... and yeah I've played around with fruityloops and cubase and all that, it's all good.

respect to the tracker. I'm a tracker too, and I still am, using Buzz.

Fuity Loops is pretty powerfull and user friendly software for beginners. Just start playing around with it, create some beats, basslines, tweak samples/synths, that's how I got started anyway. Make sure you have a decent soundcard and a powerful system. But I guess no matter what software or hardware you chose, creativity comes first

Hm I seem to have missed the new posts in this thread...

He also states that most production is done on Macs, or ProTools rigs (which are big expensive hardware protools setups).

I WANT ONE OF THOSE! I've seen a ProTools rig, don't they cost like $9k? Insanity!

Hardware: Mixer, Sampler, Midi-keyboard

Based on my own limited experience and experiences of others, E-mu makes better samplers than Akai. E-mu can also read Akai's sample CD's, but not the other way around (although I learned this about a year ago so it may have changed). By the way, samplers are friggin' expensive too, I think some of them run over $3500 US don't they?

Oh one last thing...

Dude that is super hardcore! I could never get the hang of that program, and it just didn't agree well with my occasional sample-whoring. Awesome to know that there are still some people out there who remember what a "track" really is! (RJ too)

I don't produce trance but I've been playing guitar for years and recently started making some tracks using my own creative ideas. Usually I start out with a drum beat I make with a drum machine I downloaded...like a house beat or something of the sort. I lay down the whole drum track and then record it onto an old 4 track recorder. I recently started adding synth lines and bass lines with fruity loops, but I need more practice with the software. I have a bass guitar and I play a funky bass line over the drum track and record it. Next I mess around with mellow, jazzy guitar chords and then do some jazzy soloing over top everything. It's a kind of chilled out/jazz infused house that I like to make. All on a shitty 4 track tascam, and it sounds pretty good. I realize I could do so much with good software, but I don't have the funds or time to upgrade my comp.

Anyone who produces and would like someone to infuse some guitar into their stuff, or even want me to lay some samples, feel free to contact me.

Yeah he likes it there. He gets to work with all the Canadian Sony artists and the American ones who come up to Toronto to record (Swollen Memebers, Adam Gregory, Celene Dion, Jarvis Church [are the only ones I can remember]).

And he got to sit with Mandy Moore for like 2.5 hours!!!!!!!!!!! [drool - man she's hot!].

I don't remember how much he said it cost - but I think it was $30+ for the ProTools gear (with all the upgrades and options). ProTools has a cheaper version though (ProTools Lite or something)

And yes, I'm sure there are a bunch on here who used to track things.. I remember converting Robert Miles Children to an S3M. It took like like 3 days.. lol

LOL, I remember actually downloading a "remix" of that same song before I even knew what trance was... I wonder if it was yours?
