I think you'll find, actually, that America did exist prior to 1776, even if the "United States of America" did not. The land mass was called America (just like the continents are still called North and South America today - clever eh?) and the colonies that existed there were called - you guessed it - American colonies. I can only presume that people who lived in these American colonies on the continent of America were called "Americans".
Well of course America existed before 1776, the colonies have been in existence since the 1600's or something like that. The point is howerver is that they were British colonies that were under British control. It's not like the governor of yorktown sat down for morning tea one day and all of a sudden decided to send troops to fight in the war of Austrian secession. What probably happened is that the brits conscripted people from these colonies to fight for them. Your statement which implies that America, as a country, sent troops to fight the French is false. That's like saying that Poland and Russia fought against America in WW2 because the Germans force conscripted some people to fight for them. Technically, it's true but for the sake of the argument, it's false.

By bringing the war of Austrian Succession I was merely pointing out that you can selectively look at history to support your case, regardless of what that case may be. I brought up the fact that Americans killed French soldiers in the 1740's as an irrelevent rebuttal to an irrelevant topic.

The United States has killed thousands of innocent civilians. You don't think that the muslims in the middle east just hate us because they are pure evil?
The United States is constantly bombing targets in the No Fly zone in Iraq. There have been numerous times when they "missed" their target and killed innocent civilians. Not to mention during the Gulf War we killed tons of civilians by accident, and also abandoned the iraqi people to whom we told we were trying to "liberate."
And remeber just a few years ago when the whole Monica Lewinsky thing was going on. On the day of her testimony, Clinton decided to change the media attention and declared a "war on terror" and ended up firing missles at numerous targets including a phamaceutical factory killing some janitors.
The list of times goes on and on. Just look at Vietnam.
Just do a little research and you will see, America is no wonderful "good" country. The "evilness" goes all around.
Oh and on the thing on the French killing Americans in WWII.
Yes I did know that. Vichy france was a puppet government set up by the Nazis. The real French government w as in London at the time.
Don't use that as an excuse to berate the French for not supporting our soon to be war with Iraq.
It's sad. It seems this country is just going further and further down the crapper. I remember hearing a news story where some senators were calling for legislation to boycott french and german food because they don't support us.
All this ignorance and pride reminds me of the state of mind of people in Germany during WW2 or the people in Germany, France and Britian before WW1
