and swamper knows everything about keeping this site up...most of us know *nothing*. its not just as simple as making some pretty pictures in Adobe...

If you guys just try to think optimisticly you will see that there is loads of room for improvement on the layout. You'll have an incredible yet simple and effective layout to match the incredible community. That would make the forums even more addicting.

Swamper does have a point though. I agree that increasing the speed amongst other things is more important than a new layout. But Swamper really doesnt have to be too involved in the construction of the new layout. Just temporarily create a new forum for graphics, hold a contest for people submitting the graphics, and then choose a top 5 or a top 10 graphics artists to work on the site. They can get input from Swamper and the rest of the community to see what works and what we want.

out of curiosity what exactly are you suggesting? Do you have sort of an idea of what youd like to see?

An idea... yes I do have an idea, but I cant really describe what I want. Thats not the point though, its not about what I want to see. Its about making a new layout that everyone will enjoy, and the first element that I think is proven that everyone will enjoy is a black background.

The layout is good as it is...simple, no huge images, trend-whore style art etc. A white b/g would be horrible imo, because for some people it would be harder to read. But blah...

yeah, im all up for change. I like the black and all, im just pulling a blank on things to change. I havent taken a scrutinizing look yet, but usually you are like DAMN this needs to change, or this could be cooler, but im kinda happy with the status quo. I just dont have a vision yet hehe. maybe if you threw some shit on the wall, could see what sticks? like make a pic with some stuff on post it,,, i dunno

No need to be fancy with huge abstract graphics and long loading times. Here are some examples of what I have in mind. I just typed in Unreal Tournament in Google and here are some good layouts:

With this design we see its really simple but at the same time looks real good. See where it says Community at the top we can put Forum written in a cool font with a border like on that site. Instead of Infogrames we can put a new TA logo. Look at the top right area all the tabs are there. And then change the color scheme into something with a black background. We can make our forum something like that. See its just looks slick.

These ones are really simple, but just the way thats it looks is satisfying. The way everything is colored just adds to the eye candy. Similar to the first one. If you do something like this just tweak the colors and you're set. These designs dont really look too hard.
