We're just rennovating our basement and I'm looking for a way to do that as the family isn't too happy with my constant blasting of "noise" (aka to us Trance). Even more so because I'm getting decks soon and want to be able to practice...not be forced to do it at certain times when nobody is home or in similar situations. If anyone has any ideas it would be great, thanks!

My brother built a studio in the basement when he lived at home and you couldn't hear a thing.

What you need to do is go to Home Depot and buy soundproofing (the Roxul is what he used - he used the most expensive type) insulation (it's also fire-proof!!). They have 3 or 4 different types each with different sound proofing abilities. It comes in sheets to fit standard drywall studs.

It's sort of like that pink insulation you see in your house, but it's a black/grey color.

Then, when you put up the drywall put the soundproofing in between the drywall, and don't forget to put it on the roof above the stucco as well.

For the engineers out there who took fluid dynamics (boo! I hated that course) - sound works the same way. You need maximum surface area to diffuse the soundwaves. The Roxul works best, and if you're really paranoid, there is professional asbestos soundproofing that they use on top of the drywall (after installing the Roxul).

Yeah Rj, thanks. That's what I'm planning on doing, putting up the insulation behind the dry wall. As for the ceiling there isn't stucko, it's more like a wooden/hardened type of material (that's being taken out).

Stucco is usually sprayed onto that. Just put the sound proofing above the wooden material between the roof and the floor.. You'll need it.
