I like mixed albums. They seem to have a better flow than if the tracks are seperate.

i understand dj mixed albums which consist of tracks by different artists that are mixed! but what the fuck for would you mix an artist album?

bt - rare & remixed
for example is one of these albums and paul van dyk albums are mixed too! that sucks! they are totally worthless because of this! i really hate it!

the tracks on the album they are advertising are meant to be mixed by the dj anyway.
people who aren't dj's who buy the album want to listen to the songs.
most don't want to listen to the boring intros and outros with just the beat.
and i don't like listening to the radio edits because the song is shortened and even more is cut out than when it is mixed into different tracks.
you should be able to decide whether to buy the track or not on vinyl even if you aren't able to hear the intro beat and outro beat.
besides its nicer when the tracks are mixed together because the cd flows better and there are no breaks (considering it was mixed properly)

can someone tell me one of which every track has been released as a single or maxi??

and i usually don't like to listen to a whole album at one go. i usually pick out the tracks that i like to hear and burn my own compilation! i just think that it's totally pointless to mix an artist album!

Why? Because you don't like it?

What's the point in making an album if people only take away their favourite tracks from it and ignore the rest? That's what pop albums are for.

Completely agree with you!
One track is not enough to tell the listeners everything the author wanted to. Some tunes are made just for intro/outro sound, just maybe for you to get into a new atmosphere.
You can always get 12" or CDMaxi to play them live

because you kind of have to listen to the whole album as a whole and that in my opinion is stupid.
if you have an unmixed album you can still listen it as a whole and you can listen it in pieces too, you can listen a track here and there and you don't have to listen to the album in the same order as it is originally!

if i want a mixed cd, then i'll go buy for example
"dj tiësto - magik 6"
and the tracks flow much nicer together on there than on for example bt's rare & remixed!

i just think that they are two different kinds of cds. i think that artist albums sound better and are a lot more useful if they aren't mixed. and dj mixed compilations are there to take you on a journey!

IMHO!

You're right in some way...
I own Satoshi Tomiie's GU Nubreed 006 as 3x12 and Sasha - Airdrawndagger 3x12 unmixed. But the problem is - you get very few tunes... 2 CDs are not 6 tracks, right?

Yes, well, I kinda agree with that one - if you put out a collection of rarities and stuff it should be unmixed.

Yes and no - in the trance scene most albums are just compilations of the vinyls the artists have put out and not "real" albums.
But in some genres people actually think of a THEME for an album and do the album first... only then they do single mixes of the tracks.
To me it's not essential for an album to be mixed (good examples: Rank 1's, Tiesto's and Airwave's albums) but often it makes the album sound a hell of a lot more pro and it gives you the impression that the artist has really struggled to think of themes and such rather than just chugging all his latest tunes on a disc.

yep! that was what i was trying to say! i'll go get a dj mixed compilation if i want a mixed cd and not an artist album! dj mixed compilations usually have less restrictions than artist albums, so the "journey" will probably be nicer, if you get the point!

this topic really came about when i was just SO pissed off to find out that bt's rare & remixed was mixed, because it has so many great tracks (for example one of my alltime favorites "bt feat. jan johnson - sunblind"). and i just like to listen to the tracks maybe differently than you! i like them be to long and full from the beginnig to the end, every beat.

but i understand your point, like i said we just listen music slightly different!

peace!
