Thanks all for replying, I'll certainly check out Shoppers Drug Mart tomorrow. In all fairness I don't really care how they look, as long as they are comfortable to wear for 5h+ straight .

Woo ha! Finally something that I know...

1. Shoppers Drug Mart ($5 for 3 pair). Go with pink ones that come with a case - they're 30 or 33 db!

2. Yes there are difference betweeen brands, type etc. Be sure to purchase foam plugs, and READ THE INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO INSERT THEM.

75% of the people I see at clubs have not installed them properly and are not getting the protection

Look at the back of the packge for db rating. Anything less than 25 db reduction won't help you much (in a club). I've tried some 40 db, but I find the 30 or 33 db to be the best.

Option B.

Go get custom fitted muscian earplugs ~ $200.

The only reason I know is due to herridetary hearling loss - everybody in my family goes deaf with age, so I figure I should spend the time now protecting my ears so I don't end up having to wear a hearing aid in later life.

any chance one of the music stores in TO (ie. Steve's Music on Queen) carry these? I have a pair of foam ones but the music sounds a bit off with them...better than nothing but these etymotic ones sound sweet...

I have a permanant ring in my ears ever since Deep Dish last January

i dont think they carry them in the stores...

just get a whole bunch of people and order...that way you wont have to pay shipping on just one pair. trust me, they are well worth it. and only $12 USD...that's less than $20 CAD.

Quality of Earplugs... Well there is a difference in the quality of earplugs depending what you're looking for. Some orchestra's/musicians/military use a custom designed earplug to lower the db audible level while retaining the pitch and sound variations in what's being heard. These are the top of the line earplug if you want to lower the music volume without baffling the sound quality. Forget about them though since you'll be paying big $$$ for them. Cheapest way to get decent earplugs would be to call up a buddy that works at a manufacturing plant. They give them out free to the employees so they'll be able to scam a bunch of them. Usually they're pretty good as well.

Just my 2 cents....

Thanks for pointing me to these awesome earplugs. They arrived too late for ultraspin (today) but I compared them with my drugstore pair and they're amazing! Just like turning the volume down, no noticable cutting out of any frequencies!

I highly recommend them too...

blue things sticking out of your ears probably look better than foamy dollar store earplugs!

they didn't say how much the ground shipping would be for international orders, but it'll probably turn out to be somewhere just under $25cdn total.

They offer ground shipping and UPS overnight. I wanted them for the weekend so I picked UPS overnight but it took 5 days so I dunno if they just did the regular shipping despite what I picked. It came out to $21US; $9 for the shipping. They don't tell you ahead of time how much the shipping is. A bit costly but worth it IMO...my hearing is so screwed up...
