ok people, you will find that that pic is the old MOS booth, they have updated it now, cant quite remember how tho, sorry

neway the point of this post it this....

they are not denon decks in the corners, they are actaully 1210 mk2's cos they have 6 going along the top, tho two side decks are vestax pdx 2000's ( i think thats the name for them)

and while im here, just for the record they now have an A&H mixer (well ive been told) and they arn't all denon cd decks, 1 of them is actually MD ( on the left i think)

How many people have tried telling you what to get without telling you why, or have fed rumours or gossip into the thread?

Cutting through the crap, what you buy depends on your mixing experience, your DJing needs and your budget.

* You're not going to be bothered about the difference in how the Denon / Pioneer jog wheel performs when scratching if you're not a turntablist already. If you've never scratched, you'll be happy learning on either.

* The 1000 has more accurate pitching than the 800. I think the 1000 offers 0.02% and the 800 offers 0.05%. Both of these are better than the Denon which has 0.1% accuracy. However, this will only make any difference if you're used to 1210s or high quality turntables, because, if you're not used to pitch slider accuracy, you won't miss it when it's not there. IMO opinion, 0.1% is not accurate enough - you can't leave tracks in the mix for >1min without adjustment like you can with a 1210. But like I said, if you've only ever used CD turntables or low quality vinyl turntables this won't make enough difference to you to justify the extra money.

* One of my mates (diehard vinyl junkie) said he'd start using CD when you could see the track layout like you can with vinyl. Well, the 1000 appeared with wave display and he's still using vinyl. But, the point I'm making is that if you're used to being able to see the breaks etc. on vinyl, you might like the wave display. However, IMO you don't need it. There is no substitute for knowing what you're playing. You don't need to see what is going on when you already know when the break drops, that there's a four bar fill before the outro etc.

By the way, that MOS booth... Like, how the f**k are you going to mix with that many decks? Get all your mates in?

Cool

thanks for the info TranceInMySoul you've cleared it up a lot for me I have sl-1200s so it's very important to me to get something that will sit well with them while mixing, I have borrowed DJRavemonkey's Numark CD Decks which have 0.1% accuracy which is definately not tight enough, especially compared to the infinite accuracy of the 1200s. It looks like the debate between the 800 and the 1000 is totally narrowed down to the 1000 now at least

BTW, that is the MoS booth before it got redone, most ofthe decks are now Stanton STR8-100s and they have CDJ1000s too along with asn allen + heath mixer with a custom effects unit

Well of'course the booth isn't meant for one DJ to spin on 8 decks, three mixer, external effects processor, 2 dual Dennon CD players and a CDJ 1000, the booth is designed to accompany DJ's preference of type of mixer used , notice that they have a rotary mixer with rotary external processor, other two are Rane MP24z and Club MP44Z, two different Denon Dual CD DJ players Denon DN 1800F and Denon DF2600F. The whole set up is controlled by a laptop and the sound engineer, and any other component can be just added 'cause the whole booth is prewired for various other DJ equipment, thus the CDJ 1000 looks a bit out of place. And can you imagine how much easier it is to do a tag team set or a 2 X 4 battle sets?

Ok, the motor driven jog plate isn't only for scratching, for someone like myself who is used to spinning vinyl only, the rotating plate would make it hell of a lot ealier and more accurate to cue up a track, plus I like to throw in a backspin effect on some tracks, and having motorized plate will make it easier and more accurate, plus I can do it while the CD is playing and queue the backspin on the same track and another track from same CD...

Let's get the technical jargon correct, shall we?????

Pioneer CDJ 1000 has
Tempo Control A new 100mm linear high precision slider connected to a 0.02% (at +/- 6%)
Tempo Control Range Ranges of +/- 6%, +/-10%, +/-16% and +/-24% can be assigned to the Tempo Control slider
RW Frequency Response: 4 Hz-20kHz Signal-to-Noise Ratio: 115 dB or more (EIAJ) Total Harmonic Distortion: 0.006%; Power Consumption: 33 W

Denon DN5000S
MAIN/ (Alpha) Track: ±4% (0.05% step), ±10% (0.1% step), ±16% (0.1% step), ±24% (0.1% step), ±100% (1.0% step) Sampler: ±24% (0.1% step)
Pitch Bend ±12% (when variable pitch range is ±4 or 10%), ±26% (when variable pitch range is ±16 or 24%), ±100%(when variable pitch range is ±100%)

Specifications: Frequency Response 20 Hz - 20 kHz Total Harmonic Distortion 0.005% S/N ratio 99 dB Channel Separation 85 dB Analog outputs of MAIN (ALPHA) MONITOR (1 kHz, 0 dB playback) Transfer and Connector Unbalanced, RCA connector Output Level 2.0 Vrms, 10 kohm Digital outputs Transfer and connector Coaxial Signal format SPDIF Dimensions; Power Consumption: 18W

You are correct though, about other ppls opinions, Go to a local store and play with them for your self, and see what feels more comfortable to you.But since you are only getting 1, you can pretty much get away for not having second one for mixing by getting Denon, 'cause as I've said before, not only can you play one track out and cue another track from same CD, you can actually eject the CD when it's about 35second left in the track and cue another CD right away, and if 35seconds isn't enough for you to queue another track or to blend it in, just go into special features of the unit and instantly create a loop to buy some more time.... I went to my friends shop and played with CDJ 800, CDJ 1000, Denon DN5000S and I really liked the feel of the Denon much better.

As far as I know, they have no plans, I'm a member of their US forum and so far they are saying no new products coming out. Besides that have the DMP(digital Media Player) 555 out that's for mp3 and wma(I think):

Cool Technology For The Hottest Mixes

World's first Digital Media Player with MP3 & SD technology

The DMP-555 is compatible with CD Audio and MP3 formats and will playback from both CD and SD Card. Since these are capable of storing a huge number of MP3 tracks and loops, the DMP-555 allows DJs to enhance their sets and mixes with the latest music from around the world.

When the slim, compact and portable SD Card is used for mixes, the DMP-555 effectively becomes a sampler. This ground-breaking innovation is possible because MP3 loops can be BPM sync'd to the CD output and then fired on cue. In addition, the Master Tempo control can be used to slow down or speed up SD audio, without the pitch being affected.

CD ripping, loop editing and music file management are simple operations with the bundled DJ Booth software. And because the application simulates a set-up using two Pioneer CD players and a mixer, it's easy to master the playback, mixing and editing functions in no time at all. It's even possible to control the software from the DMP-555 itself, making DJ Booth the most innovative and user-friendly application available to today's digital DJs.

The DMP-555 even has its own world-first: the revolutionary isolator feature that allows users to mute the low, mid or high ranges of a track on either CD or SD Card.

The DJ Booth software bundled with the DMP-555 helps users manage their digital music on PC, simplifying the process of CD ripping and managing authorized compressed audio files - such as MP3 - from the Internet. And the ability to transfer tracks to both SD Card and CD is yet another innovative feature.

For mixing and playback, the application simulates a set-up with two Pioneer CDJ players and a mixer, allowing users to benefit from unrivalled flexibility in mixing their favorite tracks and loops stored on their PC. This winning combination of software and hardware makes the DMP-555 the essential Digital Media Player for aspiring and Pro DJs alike.

List price: $1,499.95 Hefty price tag though.
