The problem isnt that people are downloading music but that you are
downloading it and NOT buying it afterwards.
I know alot of ppl say "Im gonna download this and if its good, il buy it! Promise!",
but they don't. The second after they have downloaded it they say,
"Hey, I already got it now, why would I want to buy it?"
THAT is what is driving music labels nuts, and some of them, down
the drain.
I download lots of music, but I buy lots and lots too.
For me its just a good opportonity to see if L-Vee, Ferry, Oakenfold
or anyone else has managed to do a good job, I refuse to buy tunes
that I havent listened too because record labels release too much
sheit and a vinyl full of sheit aint worth it.
So, before you go along saying that they are full of bull and that
you would never have discovered trance if you hadnt downloaded it,
think of this, how much have you paid them back in respect and money?
Have you bought a full lenght album more then once?
Have you bought a cd full of tunes that you already have on your
computer?
Or have you just downloaded it and said "They should be glad mp3s exist,
otherwise I would never have discovered them!"
Well, if no one buys their music it doesnt matter if you are downloading it or not,
it doesnt bring any profit what so ever.

Bonzaï used to have compilation cd's(that's how I got into trance btw,my first cd I bought was bonzaï compilation 5).They had a few compilations, you had bonzaï compilation X,the bonzaï afterhour series, bonzaï loveparade collection ,the xtc-collection and some more series.Back then they were very popular(here in belgium, donno for other countries)But with upcoming other compilations, they started to decrease their compilations. It has been a while since I heard they released a new one,and now it's too late since they never will.
But still,I do too think that it's stupid to blame it on mp3 that they got bankrupt.Other labels would die too then, but they don't.

I am a DJ and I spin only CD. That was not my first choice, but that is how is happened. WIthout MP3, I could not do what I do. I still support the labels and buy CD compliations and CD releases of my favorite artists. As for labels blaming MP3 downloading, that is a complete cop-out. The fact of the matter is if a label puts out quality music, then they will sell. I like many of the tracks that Bonzai has put out in the past, maybe their music is not as attractive to some as it was in the past. The same with some other labels.
I understand labels and producers having issues with downloads, but unfortunately that is the way this comunity works. That is the way we live today. One good thing comes out of it..People are listening to their music, enjoying the productions and spreading the love and passion for the music. Maybe it is time for lables to come up with alternative ways to generate money. Planning events, parties and festivals is a good way to generate money and get your name out.
This message may piss some people off, and since I don't know how to run a label, my words and ideas may be far off, but to me, this music is spread in various ways. To me, if the music is getting out there, that is the most important thing. If anyone agres or disagrees, please let me know your thoughts

I just do it exactly the way I enjoy listening to it. This is most of the time it is with banging beats. It is even with a soft thing, a soft melodic idea, or whatever. I still like to have it rocking. Keep in mind what this music is made for, first of all. Its not made to be easy listening on the radio. Its not made to be easy listening in television. Its actually kick ass in the club. This is what music is. This is the purpose of this art form...to listen to it and let the frequencies actually blow you away. --Paul Van Dyk
