at the end of the day its a double edges sword... i think mp3s have helped and promoted artists as much as they have hurt them financially... its technology, you cant control it. give the current prices of vinyl i for one, do feel for the artist but what about us the consumer. we cant afford to spend 20 dollars on every fucking tune just to hear it, granted there are listening booths in record stores but without the mp3, there wouldnt be hype around tracks certain tracks wouldnt be saught after and the community in general would be less clued in. which i think would reflect on the enthusiasm of events etc. how many of you that goto the gigs can say every track you trainspotted you had heard through a 'legal' avenue. fuck off. MP3s have advantages and disadvantages, they treat the entire consumer markets as greedy drones who just want to download as much as possible and thats a insult to all the people out there spending there hard earned dosh on the vinyls, cds or whatever they first hear on mp3
i find it hard to believe airwave cant pay his bills because of the mp3 format, that is the biggest load of bullshit i have ever heard, the amount of income he must have generated just from users on this message board would be enough to have someone clean his balls everyday |
Agreed, there are advantages and disadvantages.
Philby, i can say quite honestly that if it weren't for mp3 i wouldn't have bought one single vinyl of L-vee's or anyone else for that matter. I probably wouldn't even know what trance is.
What i don't get is what is this petition going to do?? Stop programs such as Direct Connect??

I think Airwave's a bit money hungry....so much for being in it for the music. Fair enough that he wants to make money - dont we all. But to actually consider quitting it all together because of mp3s is just arselike. "I can't afford the latest equipment" blah...sell some of the old stuff, plus the equipment can be stretched to extroadinary lengths.
I download a fuckload of music, i get about 100meg a day and dont delete it after 24 hours. Im a ****, i download all this shit and say i'm an artists biggest fan. Reason is, is because i'm not a DJ yet, so i aint buying CD singles or vinyls. Show me a place to buy livesets!! I still buy a lot of CDs. I'm up to about 50 albums now, and ever rising. I'm gonna go buy the new GU next Monday, hurrah. I'm also gonna ask about Dajae and Full Intention and whether or not they've released an album or compilation or ANYTHING! Jah sent me Dajae and Full Intention - What do you Want (dub) earlier. This is one phat ass tune. Mp3's have their pros and cons for sure, and honestly...i dont consider it stealing as long as the music stays on the hard-drive. As soon as you burn the album to CD, your a uber-****. I've done this a few times myself, only because i needed to hear the album on my stereo, I'm gonna go buy the albums some day soon - most likely when i see em in the store.
I read in an interview with a high profile producer (sorry, forgot which one) and he talked about how labels are very cautious over what to release nowadays. You know what, GOOD!!! We the consumer deserve quality music, especially if we're paying $30 for a CD - sometimes as high as $55 for imported shit. Another thing, L-Vee, I'll buy your music if you stopped making tracks the same as every other one of ur tunes!! Rest assured, he's made some sweet tracks over the years, but they're all the same! 'Go King Kickdrum, Keep on Kickin!'
