Basically, thats one reason. Just like Osama releases all those BS videos, we televise whats going on live. 1. The information being reported by "on location" reporters is easily available to the Iraqi military anyway. They have maps and recon, they probably know more than the reporters. (if not, then they're completely fucked and they should turn on CNN ASAP.)

2. Any other info that is reported comes from the military and they would certainly not jeopardize their operation.

3. A free press is one of the most important elements of a democracy. If the military started censoring CNN's and whoever else's reporters (which is virtually impossible these days anyway), then I'd be very worried.

what some of you don't seem to understand is that this isn't only an american thing as much as the war isn't only about the usa

press agencies work with journalists around the world, some being locals, some being sent on the field for specifics assignments.

Please stop believing that the American military commanders would be so stupid as to let the media report on information that will compromise lives. The media (and not just American reporters) were specifically invited to join with certain units so they can broadcast to the world that we aren't committing atrocities to civilians, we are conducting ourselves in a civilized manner, and to expose any womd's that we find before we can be accused of "tainting" the evidence. If anything this is a great thing that we're getting unprecedented news coverage of our actions in the field.

whats the problem? the military is happy with the way these reporters are going about their jobs etc., otherwise they wouldn't let them be embedded with the units.

most of you also failed to realise the potential of misinformation that the media can provide. eg. 'we can expect massive blitz of awe and shock bla bla into baghdad'.

and yet, they sent the ground forces in before the so called massive blitz occured. probably caught the iraqi's off guard who were all expecting to have the shit bombed out of it. misinformation - get it?
