Lots of places ... cnn, bbc, reuters, abcnews, news.com.au, and patrioticamerica.net (j/k) .

I also like to pay attention to AP reports. If I'm looking up a specific topic I either go straight to the source or look for articles that use lots of footnotes ... then I look at the footnotes to see if the sources look biased (ex: "The American Killer/Murderer/Torturer/Baby/Dog killers of the middle east") or whether they look relatively impartial (ex: American Foreign Policy in Palestine). Other than that I guess you can't really do much more.

Chomsky is University Professor of Linguistics and Philosophy at M.I.T and one the world's leading critics of American foreign policy and corporatization.

-you heard of him in psych class because his linguisitc theories of syntactic strucures turned B.F. Skinner and Piaget on their heads.

I, too, find the wire services and the australian press extremely helpful--if you'd like to liberalize your sources a bit, may I suggest the CBC, www.zmag.org (prob. far too liberal for you) and the media watchdog groups, Accuracy in Media (www.aim.org -ultra conservative) and Fairness and Accuracy In Reporting (www.fair.org -liberal).

I'll take a look at those sites, and I'll def check out CBC. But to tell you the truth, I typically read .org sites with a VERY skeptical eye.

Be Cool!

I think this article overlooks what is really going on. This is the year 2003 and we have pathetic govs around the world (including our own) who really need to evolve in order to ensure our very survival. The democratic government has really made allot of progress in contrast to the rest. So naturally we are doing what we think is right by allowing the world superpowers to convert the smaller nations into something that can be mutually beneficial to everyone. This involves $, armies and influence. America and the rest of the democratic nations have all of these. So we use them. Yes there is risk involved and there is a chance things will go the wrong way for humanity as a whole. However there is more risk in letting the world continue its crippling division. This article makes it sound like the US is trying to own the world. AMERICA CANNOT RULE THE WORLD. It isnt trying too. Democracy can, and it shal in time.

Why do you feel it is up to you to push for change? (ie The democratic/powerful countries) Especially if those countries do NOT want that type of change? It only makes it a million times worse if you and FORCE it upon them as opposed to waiting for that nation to realize what is better for them (which might not necessarily BE the democracy that fits for some nations). The point is let THEM decide, not you. I've learnt that even through something as basic as music/trance. My brother hates it! I have tried to get him to listen to more and more and more of it but it won't take so why try? He will either realize it or not, as long as he leaves me alone what's the big deal? See my point??

P.S that Chomsky article is brilliant. He is a genius.

Did I say its up to me to make change? My bad. As for your live and let live mentality. Im sure its nice in theory. However, in this case it is my understanding that the people of Iraq actually favor a democratic gov. This might just be the typical lies and slander from news corps (CBC radio Canada) but it is what ive been hearing. Oh by the way does anyone know a country which is communist/fundamentalist/facist with a population which supports the gov and doesnt need to be scilenced by force?!?!?!?

How is the article brilliant?? Seems normal to me.
