I just do it exactly the way I enjoy listening to it. This is most of the time it is with banging beats. It is even with a soft thing, a soft melodic idea, or whatever. I still like to have it rocking. Keep in mind what this music is made for, first of all. Its not made to be easy listening on the radio. Its not made to be easy listening in television. Its actually kick ass in the club. This is what music is. This is the purpose of this art form...to listen to it and let the frequencies actually blow you away. --Paul Van Dyk

the most important thing to remember is that you should set your desired volume level at the begining and KEEP IT THERE! If you keep turning it up due to your ears getting "used to" the loudness, then you will go deaf quite quickly and your djing career will be very short.

Excellent point. When i first started spinning at clubs, i noticed at the end the volume in the headphones was very high. This is very good advice - make sure you do not keep adjusting the headphone volume unless you really have to. Don~t worry, you~ll get used to it!

On the positive side, this huge bass makes transitions seem smoother, and if a beat match is slightly off its generally pretty hard to tell.

One strange thing I found was that I had to turn my bass EQ way down to prevent distortion. THe bass was still very strong even with the EQ down though. I dont know if this was a sound system fault or what, but just be aware that it might occur.

good luck

hey man if you spin in a club somewhere in toronto get back to me for more info and i would love to come check you out.

I've only played one live gig so far, but it was on one of our scene's most powerful soundsystems, so it was a good experience to hear what your records sound like on a powerhouse speaker set up.
It all comes down to what you feel is right to do. Of course technical issues aside(i.e volume, etc...) just spin as if you were doing it like any other day. Making it more than it is, although I can understand where your coming from, will only make you more nervous. Think of it as a test to see what your stuff at home sounds like on a club system.
Have fun. Have fun, and have fun. It's going to be a memorable experience, so make the most of it. Just like sex, just like E, your first DJ gig is always the most exciting, so don't trip!
COngradulations, BTW, and I'm sure everything will go ok...tell us about it when you get back!

nope, I dont spin at any clubs. Maybe one day i will though!
When I was talking about the sound levels I was referring to playing at my scool one time, when we rented a crazy system and put it outside.
