only like a 5% mortality rate boys and girls. those people have bad immune systems/are elderly.

they treat you with penacilin (sp?). It doesn't cure you, but it helps.

My sister-in-law's grandmother (or some similar family relation) was in one of the hospitals that closed down because of SARS and had to be quarrantined, so I thought I'd post what the hospital told my sister-in-law:

1. There have been NO reported incidences of secondary infection, i.e. people catching it from people who caught it from the original victims.

2. According to the hospital, it was not necessary for her to be quarrantined, nor her kid (despite the kid being a baby and being in direct contact with her grandmother after she was in the hospital).

3. So far, nobody has been reported to have caught SARS anywhere outside of a hospital.

So to add a few meaningful elements to this discussion:
- Is SARS dangerous? Yes. However, it does not seem to be highly infectious.
- As trancegeek pointed out, there is no way the virus is airborne, otherwise there would already be a huge epidemic.
- If the virus were spreading through clubs, that would mean that hundreds of people in several clubs would be getting infected several times a week. If this were really happening, the virus would likely find its way to you anyway.
- This is something I already said, but clubs aren't the only crowded places. If someone feels like shit, they're not so likely to go clubbing, but they may still drag their asses into school or work.
- Mortality rate is 5%, and this is taking into account much older people who have much weaker immune systems. I think the person who died in Toronto was over 70...

So, I'll wait and see what happens... but if you're choosing not to go to any clubs, at least make an informed decision and don't just be paranoid.

It doesn't seem highly infectios because pretty much everyone is quaranteened. If they didn't enforce this, you'd see way way more people being sick right now. I read several articles which say that it is in fact airborne.

There is already 4 people dead in TO. one of them was 45 or smthn.. don't remember.. Anyways, 5% mortality rate is a lot ! I'm sure you alone know next to 200 people. Now imagine 10 of them dying. Odds are it will be someone close to you.

i voted undecided as well. I have no immune system. every single time i party i get sick. i have been sick since 2 days after Tiesto. I would totally be asking for it if SARS isn't under control and i hit up both I-dream and PVD.

Do0d... where did you read that it was airborne? I'm telling you, it's not, this came from the hospital OK? I think they know a little more than the newspapers do.

45 is still old compared to most of us. The mortality rate of 5% (I'm sure I said this already) is based on a lot of old people or hospitalized people (read: low immune systems) getting infected.

If you have a bad immune system than I agree, going to parties might be a bad thing at the moment. But as for the other issues, let's not get too paranoid here.

good poll e*master.. this is an important issue, and who knows how serious this could get it. I would advise to make very careful decisions in the following weeks.

and no disrespect to viva but you are definitely increasing your chances of gettin SARS by attending

Just exactly what else is there to touch?

(Please don't answer, it was a rhetorical question)

Yep... and all it takes is ONE person infected with it in the club to spread it to a few dozen, and from there on... whew!

Plus doctors and scientists don't know how it's spread yet (they believe it's through saliva and particles from sneezes and shite, but they're still not sure), they don't know how to cure it (beside hitting you with the regular treatments for similar diseases and lots of drugs), and they don't know how long it stays in your system after you get well (if!)...

But then again, I'm more concerned about getting on the subway full of 40+ people (with weak immune systems and possible "infection") than I am about hitting a club with much younger population... then again, it's all a matter of how much you feel like risking your health and your life these days.
