Listening to one of Oakenfold's newer sets I find that house has very little build up where as trance has a build up and a take down...it's hard to explain, kinda like asking what love is to you!

In all seriousness though, some house music can be pretty good. Don't like that disco-ey, diva stuff though - I'm sure we all agree there - but so long as it has a toughish beat, there aren't many better genres to dance to. You can tell a housey beat from the BPM (relatively laid-back and chuggy) and the way the beat's structured - could be imagining things, but look out for a high-hat/snare on the second and fourth beats in each bar, because I find that's a usually housey trait. Also, look out for funky guitar rifts. They're usually a dead give-away.

Exactly. I love them all. Breaks, prog, house, trance. They all do thier job when you need a specific feeling. If I want to get a speeding ticket I play PvD at Mayday. If I want to chillout playing video games with friends while smoking, it's breaks our prog.
