Search looks for content within posts or titles - your username is not part of the 'content' of your post - so no result would be found.
It all revolves around full-text searching and 'weighing' certain terms based on their frequency - searching for last posts by a user is cumbersome since while there are indicies for this sort of thing it still takes a long time on close to 5 million posts. This is the reason why the vast majority of large vB forums have search turned off for non-registered users - something I may be forced to do.
Some technical reading:

"That is, why is it bad if a search term is common? Well, think of the farmer who marked the location of the leprechaun's gold by tying a sock around a nearby bush. When he returned with his shovel to dig up the gold, the leprechaun had tied a sock around every bush in the field! Moral: if 'sock' appears everywhere, it is a useless marker."

Two questions:
1. Shall we start a thread "Chip in for search appliance for TA"
2. Did leperchaun use the sock inappropriately beforehand?
s.p.s. <-- to hell with it!
Thanks for the info Swamper!
btw, 5Mill posts??? whoa...

And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life’s change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true. |
