How was it? (being there in person first day, I mean)

Did you get to see Justine WIN??!

So pissed off that TSN never gave coverage to her first set and instead focused on Jankovic's... though granted Jelena's set was a nail-bitter! Holy tie-breaks in the 3rd set. Jesus... it was intense!

(but c'mon! my girl justine is no. 1 in the world and of course seeded no. 1! GIVE HER THE COVERAGE!!! )

nevertheless, fell asleep tho before got to see the end of it, as Id only managed a total of 4-5 hours sleep this entire weekend in Toronto... staying awake proved too hard.

When i did wake up again at midnight tho on teh couch, i saw that they were airing Sharapova's game... it was nice to see coverage going past 12am, when it was scheduled to end.

caught a bit of her match until, again, i feel asleep again. lol (i have higher hopes for myself tonight!)

I knew i could count on u Jem

Ahhhh here we are, ANOTHER beginning of a tennis season starting with the prolific Aussie Open 2008.

I truly love this tournament, and i gotta say its just BARELY ahead of the US Open as my 2nd fave major..Wimbledon of course is #1

I love the courts, i love the extreme heat, and i LOVE the fans.
Always so much emotion in any of these matches.
And the Aussies LOVE it

I'm not gonna ramble, Roger the hero of heroes...if he loses, i'll be crushed.
But not the easiest draw....still the fave obv.

One to watch for is Murray the Scotsman. He's rehabbed his wrist and is fully healthy
AND playing well, winning in Doha.
This yr is gonna be HUGE for him i predict (barring injury).
I see him cracking the top 5, if not top 3 this yr...
Murray, Nadal, and Djokovic make for a GREAT future in men's tennis.
Time for Davydenko, Gonzalez, and Roddick (especially) to drop

This is a yr i'd LOVE to see Henin take it from the start.
I'm aching to see someone with the Grand Slam, and Henin would be a wonderfully deserving person of it.
REALLY hope she takes this tournament.

Ideal finish in 2 weeks:
quote:
"Game, set, & match Federer...6-4 6-3 6-4
Your Australian Open 2008 champion, ROGER Federer"

The march towards history continues

The Aussie open is my FAV opening! Nothing touches it for me!! The fans, the vibe, the "Aussie-ness" and, oh yea, the extreme heat too!

When you say the courts... im confused. Do you mean the surface... ?? and do you still hold the same love now that they've changed the surface this year. Its no longer rebound-ace, its some new compound. Its a slower surface now. and balls dont bounce as high, and it doesnt reflect the heat as brutally as the rebound ace did. Fed dont like it as much, but its generally being touted as a fast improvement (esp on the heat factor issue!)

[EDIT: OH! and what the hell is up w/ the nets... are they metal NOW or something!?!?!?!? ... every time a ball would hit them you'd hear a metallic "clang"... not the nice, soft sound as when they were the typical traditional hard mesh material (whatever that was called) ...]

LOL... he's out already Vrk, in teh first upset of this fortnight. :S

quote:
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, from France, pulled off an upset of ninth-seeded Brit Andy Murray, 7-5, 6-4, 0-6, 7-6 (7-5). On the deciding point of the fourth-set tiebreak, Murray struck a shot just wide left to end the match, and whacked a ball into the stands in frustration.

NO DOUBT there... she is the MOST deserving female in years that should put a calendar year Grand Slam behind her name! Increase her legend!

Henin, like Federer for you, is somebody I simply cannot NOT admire. The girl is so inspirational for me. I admire most all things about her (save for a bit a gamesmanship we've seen from her once or two a number of years ago maybe).

I'm ready for Justine Henin to dominate this year. Beat the bitch (Serena)... again! (not sure if they even in the same draw, but id love nothign more than to see Serena go down to Justine AGAIN!!! )

OK -- I hope you're talking about Serena, and not Justine...

But even if you are talking about Williams (who im not a fan of, btw), i dont understand your point in this comment...

Explain?

Are you refering to her very shocking win last year at the Aussie Open that surprised even one?

Was there conversary I'm not forgeting re: one of her matches?

I might be going again on Saturday so I'll make sure I actually do check out some games this time

Oh Trust... I know what you mean. I hit up the Rogers Cup here in Toronto almost every August, and I totally know how much fun it is to get just right tanked in the grounds. The air is alive, the crowds are intense and everywhere... and if its sunny and hot... PERFECT DRINKING environment and vibe!!

I've been hours and hours more than a few times when at the Rogers Cup jsut drinking with friends while matches were going on...

I try to avoid this as much as possible now though if I can... esp. if some big(ger) names are playing that I wish to see
