I enjoy a good showman/woman behind the decks. For me, it just ads to the vibe so much more. I like to be cutting a rug, and take a peek up at the DJ every once in a while... keeps me on the right wave length I need to be at for the duration of the set.

For sure, he's a super fun guy to go see and even more cool to hang with. He's a weed head for sure, and he looks hillarious when he laughs. I'll have to post some of the pics from the last show he played with Speedy in Detroit. Killer show and hilarious pics!

I guess as with most EDM genres, it takes some getting used to.

Although I did really enjoy Alex Smoke's EM from a little while ago. Fun stuff.

Either the music grows on you (like it much at first, everything about it) or you grow on the music (trends, scene, etc.)

“I am playing techno now because I feel that the quality of the productions at the moment is high, but I will never play any one style forever”.

I will be the first to admit that techno productions have suffered in recent years and most of the new releases I have heard are far from innovative, but I do get a bit annoyed when I hear/read that certain techno djs cite the fact that they have shifted their style in large part because they think the current techno releases aren’t especially interesting. People change their taste and inspirations all the time so I can’t fault anybody for that, but sadly I rarely hear of a leading techno dj (they are basically all producers these days now too) truly trying to actually do something about it to help the cause (for lack of a better expression)! Instead they seem to focus their production efforts elsewhere.
I’m personally not ‘bored’ with the releases I’ve been buying but if shifting your style is simply a matter of the production value being weaker these days, then I have to wonder a bit why more techno DJs (like Cave) aren’t trying to develop their own Live PA or something, which I think could be a good creative challenge!

As we all know though, everything happens in cycles.. there will always be a place for minimal, as well as techno… and it seems like we are experiencing a bit of changing of the guard, with many of the older jocks shifting styles, and new ones emerging to take their places! I definitely think either way it will be an interesting period for techno in the coming years.

I was reading an interview with Chris McCormack and how he quit the whole scene becasue of wannabe producers making the same beats, using the same samples and sounds all over again and just flooding out releases every week even though they were mostly crappy productions. (I think he was aiming at guys like Hertz). Anyways he was right to some extent but there is still ALOT of good techno out there (hard)..just got to find it and make connections.

Oh I agree... I still enjoy the techno (on the harder side) that is being produced these days, that's why it still accounts for most of my vinyl purchases

as for Hertz - what do you expect from a guy who in the early 90's produced cheesy dance tracks under the name Dr Alban or something.. hehe

But in all seriousness.. the best Hertz material I have heard recently has been remixes of his tracks done by others.. guys like Dj Murphy, Darren Kay... Hertz is a good producer though, and dj, but at one point especially there were just too many releases coming out... sort of like Danilo Vigorito a few years back! Should always be about quality, not quantity.

I think its a bit of both.

for me it usually starts with one wicked tune or dj mix, then I go searching for ones similar to it, and the next thing you know, you're loving the entire genre.

genres such as DnB, Minimal, and Hardcore are generally very hard to get into since they push the boundries and go to extremes, and at first taste most people find it to be too drastic a change from what they normally listen to. Therefore they dislike it without giving it a second chance.

It has happened to me several times with many genres, but as time progressed and I got more comfortable with EDM, I began to explore.

They got added very recently on Livesets... I am still anxiously waiting for Cari's set though.. especially given his timeslot... I am sure it is nice and hard - by his standards

the Awakenings site doesn't have them up yet though!

unrelated but since I just posted the Beyer link - he is celebrating Drumcode's 10th anniversary next month at the End in London alongside Joel Mull... and also his 30th bday!! daaaamn... I knew he started young but I would have guessed he was maybe 33 now... not 20 when he established arguably one of the most influential techno labels ever!
