For a centre back to go down so easily was quite incredible. I notice you never mentioned owen, who isn't adverse to the odd dive here or there and then yes, steven gerrard who's diving antics seem to be condoned by the english.

Granted the england players dont dive as often as some, but you talk as tho your national team is exempt from it altogether. AS the last world cup showed, if there's the chance of a penalty, and an opposing player comes near one of your players, then they will not hesitate to fall over.

The foul on Owen in 2002 against Argentina was pretty blatant. Colingi (Colinga?) was a great referee and he saw no doubts there so I don't know what you're on about there. You can always tell a dive when the arms go flailing in the air, like the Spanish guy today. I don't recall Owen doing that. You're right about Gerrard though...I"ve seen him take belly flops for Liverpool a few times.

Anyway, I"m not saying England players don't embellish. They all do! But they are nowhere near the league of the other, well known nations who are quite theatrical.

I didn't know football was a gentlemen's game though! I think that's reserved for cricket and golf! Rooney plays physical and that's a lot of his strength and the intimidation factor on defenders is significant. He's forceful and commits some fouls, but he isn't dirty and I don't think he moans. I just feel that football is becoming less and less of a semi contact sport, which is unfortunate. You can hardly tackle anymore, even if you do get the ball first.

Indeed, with Rooney as a striker and Figo as a defender they will be at each other's throats throughout the match.
