I may have posted this before...

One columnist for Yahoo Fantasy has what is called the "Eddie Curry line". It was created to show how awful a Fantasy player Curry truly is, lol. The latest one is here:

http://sports.yahoo.com/fantasy/nba...b-bigpic_010308

It is a ratio based upon the number of steals, blocks and assists a player gets in relation to turnovers...and they must average at least 25 minutes per game.

Curry consistently has been the worst player in the league and currently has a ratio of 0.58 to 1.00 of "good stats" to turnovers.

So who is the best player in the league and by quite a wide margin?

That's right...Calderon at 6.55 to 1.00!

In this day and age even Larry Bird would be hard pressed to make an all star team filled with nothing but high flyers and former dunk champs.

But this has been the problem with US basketball for a while, instead of finding the easiest way to score, they just want to see a bunch of batty stars trying to play one on five leap frog, and that's the majority of the players they produce.

Its the ESPN Syndrome.....every play wants to make the highlight reel.

another fun Calderon tidbit:

Fantasy Hoops last night was talking about the Raps and noted Calderon's ridiculous numbers in his 20 starts this year (the 9.9 ast/game, in particular).

the host said that Calderon should get at least $10 mil/year on the open market, no problem...and I'd have to agree. The Raps will be very hard pressed to retain him if they're not prepared to pay what he's truly worth, unless he's happy to take less money to stay.

I have a feeling TJ Ford will no longer be a Raptor when the time comes to re-sign Jose.

I agree, but I don't think Colangelo will be "loyal" to TJ by offering him huge money given the way Jose has been playing. Colangelo is smart enough to see a good thing that's right in front of him, especially with the option being another point guard with a more 'shoot first' mentality and health issues.

it's silly (or not so silly) trade talk time.

So Colangelo has said (I think it was reported in the Globe&Mail) that he's looking for another guard (PG).

Now, this is despite signing Derrick Martin for the rest of the year and TJ resuming workouts...which leads me to believe (re: hope) that TJ's is getting shipped out (though I suppose it could be because they'll trade Dixon and/or Graham and/or Rasho and then have leverage when negotiating with Calderon if they sign a backup PG).

dream scenario:

TJ + Graham + Dixon to the Clippers for Elton Brand.

before you laugh...the Clippers desperately need a starting PG with Shaun Livingston rehabbing a brutal injury and Sam Cassell approaching 40. Chris Kaman's all-star numbers in boards and blocks make Brand more expendable as trade bait to bring in players to retool the team.

I think that Colangelo also said that Graham and Dixon have more trade value than most may think. Graham is clearly a gifted athlete and a team may be quite interested in taking on that project. Dixon is decent, but he also makes 3 mil and his contract expires this year.

Dixon's contract is up after this year and his 3 mil. expiring contract frees up even more cap room for the Clippers, who already have a lot of players' becoming free agents next year, so they can go shopping in the off season.

I think it makes good sense for both sides...but the Clippers may want more...or they may want someone to take one of their brutal contracts off their hands (Mobley and Tim Thomas, 9 mil, 6+ mil, both have two more years left after this one).

TJ's health is suspect...but Brand is rehabbing an injury that's potentially MORE likely to be re-injured than TJ smacking his head or neck again.

Calderon, Parker, Kapono, Bosh and Brand.

Bargnani, Moon, Delfino and Humprhies off the bench.

sick.

anyway...that's what I came up with today while at work, lol

ruptured achilles tendon.

I imagine that's not fun *at all*. He won't be back until at least March, so a trade *now* doesn't seem probable, but I have a strong feeling that Brand will not be on the Clippers' roster by the start of next season. They have a lot of gaps in their lineup and trading Brand would fill a few of them.

Raptors' Moon will be dunking with the stars

NEW YORK — Jamario Moon, the Toronto Raptors' 27-year-old rookie, got word Friday that he will be among the participants in the slam-dunk contest at the NBA All-Star Weekend in New Orleans on February 16th.

"I feel great, I'm excited," said Moon, a 6-foot-8 forward who has drawn comparisons to former NBA legend Julius Erving — Dr. J — for his swooping drives to the basket and his ability to palm the basketball with ease.

Moon's teammates are excited as well.

"He told me he's got some dunks," said Raptors guard Juan Dixon.

"I got to keep it low for now," he said Friday night after wowing the Madison Square Garden crowd with a spectacular double-clutching fadeaway lay-up.

ruptured achilles? Whoa, potentially that could be career ending. Those achilles are pretty nasty little things to heal.
