I used to come to south florida a couple times a year for vacation, and it was fun. I love South Beach........ but i expect this to be on a whole 'nother level from 'fun'.. and I hope you fellow TAs help transport me from the normal "south beach" atmosphere, to the WMC, crazy, edm lovin party that I am expecting of this week. I wanna meet as many of you as possible... and pick your brains as to what it is like to live in an american dance music mecca like Miami, as opposed to the sterile nightlife environment of the midwest. |
we might not get much in this "sterile nightlife environment" but the only REALLY REALLY good time to be in Miami is during WMC..as far as DJs and such. Its nonstop in your face DJs for a whole week...you'll be totally out of body and hear music in your head for days after you leave and its b/c of that lasting impression that life up north in this "sterile nightlife environment" is a bit more managable. Just when you start to forget the events of WMC and resume your normal daily life, a really good DJ will spin into Columbus or Cleveland or Detroit and you can just get by for a little while longer. Its not nearly as intense as being in NYC, LA, or Miami full-time.
Knowing that WMC hangs at the end of a very long winter in Cleveland, I could care less if the sun never comes up and it snows everyday.

there comes a time when the operation of the machine is so odious that you cannot even tacitly participate. you've got to place your bodies on the gears, the wheels, all the mechanism. you've got to indicate to those who own it and those who run it, that unless you are free, the machine will be prevented from working at all.
