Had a couple testdrives of sedans, loved the ride, but looking for automatic over manual5spd.
Need to find one in the are that's automatic to really give it a test run... if I am still sold on all aspects by then, maybe start looking upwards toward London/KW/Hamilton area...
Back to the hunt... |
Look for rust all over the rear fenders where the panels are folded in and seam-welded. That's a notoriously bad place for it, even on 5 year old cars.
Do yourself a favour and don't buy an automatic, it's just, well, tragic. Autotragic.
Also the sedan is ugly as hell, the hatch is where it's at.

Thanks for the tips! I might even have to come to Toronto to get mine, cheaper there by a couple grand.
And I love manual, don't get me wrong, but for an everyday car, I'm just too lazy...

Before you buy a car ask yourself:
* What kind of driving do you do?
* Off road? Around town?
* What features matter to you?
* Air-con? Safety? Power?
* What's your price range?
* Where will you be parking?
* Do you have a garage or only on-street parking?
* What kind of insurance can you afford?

Ok, did more research on the G6, not getting it... the car I was looking at was in an accident and the seller tried to hide it, was all worried when I said I wanted to take it to another garage to check for frame damage, didn't have used car kit, didn't want to pay for saftey etc.. so even with the deal I was getting, decided to fuck it! Plus that year has a huge issue with the power steering and sensor since it was the first year on the G6 to have full electronic power-steering, it got recalled on the Cobalt and G5 Pursuit, but not the G6 because of the number of vehicles sold in that initial year. People were getting their steering locked up on highways and shit and getting into accidents... the power steering warning was already showing up on the DIC on the G6 I looking at, fuck that!
So now back to getting a Mazda... I need a car ASAP, this weekend actually because right now i'm using my bro's car and his school starts Monday and he needs his ride back...
Sooooooooo... making the trip up to Toronto and surrounding areas after work on Friday to look for my new whip...
I heard about DOWNSVIEW AUTO located just northwest of the Allen Road and highway 401 in the Keele and Sheppard area - http://www.downsviewauto.ca , they have a large inventory of used off lease Mazdas, lots of selection. But I heard/read some stories of them being shady and getting wrecks from Quebec which have different accident reporting and insurance claim laws so the CarProof doesn't always have all the info on it. Anyone get a car from these guys or heard stories? (AND they will throw in a Chinese knock off in-dash GPS/Stereo unit - Which will break, but at least it will be easier for me to replace it with a double DIN after-market stereo of my own later!)
I'm not strictly going Mazda, open to some others if I see/find a nice deal and car...
Anyone have any good tips or leads on dealerships? I'm not really interested in private sale, because I need to get EVERYTHING taken care of this weekend (MTO, Sale, Saftey, ETest, Insurance, etc). Anything in the areas of Brampton, Missasauga, etc...
Someone told me about http://www.auctiondirectgta.ca and that they are pretty good...
And some Autopark in Burlington?
I know i'm asking a lot of questions, but i'm picky... but at the same time overly cautious about dropping $$$ on a car since every car since I was 16 that i've owned/drove has had numerous problems and known issues with it even though it seemed fine at purchase... it's just my luck with cars Not to mention how indecisive I am lol

BTW what is your budget? |
Ideally my budget would be nothing But shit happens and I wasn't ready to buy a new car, but you gotta do what you gotta do... so i'm thinking no more than $10,000 all in after all is said and done.
BUT i'm willing to throw a few grand on top of that IF a really REALLY good opportunity comes up...
I'm hitting the autotrader.ca site and looking, trying to make a planned route of lots to hit early Saturday morning.
Thanks for any input!

as with anything yuo have to becareful even from a dealership. i dont advise rushing to get a car by this weekend. hugely increases your chances of fail.
get a carproof on what you want. no carfax(sucks). careful as some of those shady dealers fake carproofs. ugh.
id pay the $37 and do one yourself. its a small price to pay in the end. |
Like i've said, I've been looking for the past month, spend hours on Kijiji and Autotrader each day looking from here to Toronto...
I've looked around, and finally just ready to get one, NEED to get one. I think Car Proof is the only one in Canada isn't it?
I knwo private sale is better $$$ wise, but it's not an option for me right now. It's buy a car this weekend, or spend weeks putting it off and racking up cab costs to get to and from work.
I know impulse buying is not the right thing, but i've done enough looking and just fed up lol!
In the end, i'm going to get fucked somehow, private sale, dealer sale, or even buying brand new... I always do. So might as well jump in and get it done.
Just need some advice on where to look as I don't know much of Toronto outside of downtown or Brampton areas.
