yea... you're 100% right... the thing that makes me angry is the fact that i KNOW sander if hes playing to an educated audience can play whatever he wants and totally bang it out without feeling the need to play his "hits."
i love going out to see a popular dj and not being able to ID tracks. if i can stand there for 3 hours and ID 90% of the songs, then its not a good set. simple as that.
ill give you a perfect example... ive seen pvd 15+ times over the past 7 years. so ive seen my fair share of AWESOME pvd sets. 6.5 hours love from above 2002, 6.5 hours wmc space 2003, sick 3 hour set at club eau in den haag holland in 2002, and a couple more really good ones. BUT my fav pvd set EVER was when he came here to space miami in 2005 and for the first 2.5 hours of a 3 hour set i had NO IDEA what he was playing. nothing, not one ID. and i was with atleast 20 other people who all know pvds sound well and NO ONE COULD ID ANYTHING! and EVEEEEERY track was absolutely banging. he destroyed the place that night. he was even raping one of the worlds best sound systems so hard that halfway into the set the system died for almost 5 mins. now ive seen sound systems in clubs die before... but NEVER like this. and it was pvd that did it just because he was playing THAT hard. now at the end, he did a 30 min pvd show and played some crap, but even that could not ruin what he did the first 2.5 hours. i just wish MORE djs would do nights like that. because most of the "popular" djs can. hell, they would of never gotten to be that popular if they couldnt really bang it out proper. but instead they play for the newbies in the clubs and at the festivals because if they dont hear the hit song, theyll never go see that dj again. but, while doing that, they are alienating the educated fans. essentially we are being punished for liking the music toooo much. which is why you hear so many people who used to be fans of tiesto, armin, pvd, svd, etc etc etc, who now say their music sucks. it just sucks, because we as educated fans are the minority and the newbie fans outnumber us, so thats where the money is. :/
i realize this is a rant and bit over the top... but correct me if im wrong.
edit: wow... didnt realize my post got that long. lol.
