The Molson Brothers said last week that they are firmly behind Gainey. Don't forget that he is also Executive Vice President of the team.
I think his contract might be up though in terms of gm this year...maybe if we are lucky he will step down from that position. The Habs are enjoying almost record profits (I'll find the forbes article later on this), so even if the team sucks hard, they don't listen to the media because:
1. The Montreal media is comprised of lunatics, especially on the French side.
2.Full seats + tons of people willing to buy 10$ Molson M's = it does not matter.
3.RDS has big time ratings and they pay more than any other TV station in the NHL to broadcast games. In the states they practically give away rights...I believe Rds pays 35 million a year to the team which is pretty crazy.
Until fans show they are pissed with their wallets, nothing will happen i think. There is almost a 5 year waiting list for season tickets (and you pay every year to be on it), so even if the team sucks people will keep buying them.
The loges are at 95% capacity rented, the other 5% gets rented on a game per game basis.
Listening to your fans as a sports franchise only becomes important when they are not there.

once again he is 31 years old, and if you think that we have a chance to win a cup in his prime with this team, you don't know hockey. He is a great player for sure, that is why he will fetch the most.
