sorry, i won't be delivering a mix. haven't been able to properly sit down and listen to music for a while. burnt out on too much music i suppose.

i've went through a fair bit of hardcore/gabber before this point, and found this compilation to be the most interesting (tracks 8&10 i had in mind):

http://www.discogs.com/Various-Zeit.../release/222151

and i've one more review to give @Sandleaper: i've heard one other ambient mix from you made a long time ago. you tend to pick tracks that are atypical, not usual fare for such sets, but this does not always help the flow. the transitions are functional, sometimes abruptly started and finished, sometimes clashing (phrases not matching more than harmonically), and i think its because you tend to focus too much on showcasing the tracks, letting them carry the flow of the set rather than arranging them such that they add incrementally to the overall trajectory.

you have some gigantic music library at your disposal, and the tracks you pick are powerfully emotive, and that is what makes the set worth a listen more than anything else.

I pretty much agree with everything you've said here, with one big difference: I don't think this approach detracts from the flow of the set (an exception to this is the transition into Lotus Position, where, in hindsight, I agree that the phrasing issue is a bit too apparent). Like you said, the tracks I picked are powerful enough on their own, and therefore it I didn't deem it necessary to set up the transitions more intricately for this particular set than what I did. It's quite the departure from how I normally approach ambient mixes, and that was exactly what I was aiming for.

Cheers for listening, 'tis appreciated. Still miffed that you can't be bothered to deliver your mix, though.

I hate that my pessimistic prediction regarding Gabber came true.

Really hoping Magadansky delivers, that's the one I'm most excited about!

Rebel - since you suggested Psytrance, was wondering what you thought of my mix...

Ian - took a listen to your IDM mix. Honestly, you need to give yourself a bit more credit, what with the name of the mix and all... for someone unfamiliar with the genre, you did a very nice job! Many of the artists you picked would have ended up in my mix if I got that category (Aphex Twin, BoC, Autechre). I get a kick out of "Bucephalus Bouncing Ball" so it was cool to see that on there. The quick cuts you did worked fine for the genre, and beats trying to force a beatmatch. There was a very nice progression too, from the start to the balls-to-the-wall ending... only things I didn't like were that the mix was a bit on the short side, and one of the songs towards the end was way too glitchy and noisy for my tastes.

Rodri - what I liked about your mix is that you let your EDM taste shine through, even if you weren't familiar with the genre. Some of the tracks were really a trance fan's take on dubstep. Especially the I Remember remix, Papua New Guinea remix, and Dance Valley 2001. Really dug the Bassnectar and "Nintendo" (go figure) track. The mixing was my biggest complaint, it seemed that some of the transitions clanged way too much, even with the quick cuts. And both Dance Valley 2001 and Converting Vegetarians seemed way too out of place.

Still have to listen to the UK Funky mix.

Downloaded the braindance, trip hop, ambient and hardstyle sets (not that I'm a fan of the last one, but I may as well have at least one hardstyle set on my hdd). Will probably download the psy set as well to have a listen.

Lews, interesting mix. I think you had it pretty easy here. Seeing as your forte is Platipus-style trance, this was hardly a huge jump. I listened to the first half on my way to work this morning, and it blew me away. The track selection was just superb. I spent the whole day anticipating the second half on the way home. However, I'm sorry to say I was disappointed by it; things just got a bit too epic for me. Strangely, I really prefer Above & Beyond's version of Invisible. Listening to 1998 was hilarious; rarely are the limits of production technology so audible. The lead synth sounds like it's about to break.

On the whole though, very enjoyable, if perhaps a little bittersweet. I haven't listened to this much classic trance in a long time, and it's sad to hear how much more diverse and creative it was compared to now. Also, I'd strangely never realised it before, but the weaker kick drums back then meant that you could listen a lot longer without getting worn down.

Can you please PM me that unreleased track, or paste the link here? I'd love to have a copy...

Man, I was super excited to see that you got this, as I knew you'd do an amazing job, and damn was I right. I finally was able to sit down and give this the full attention it deserved and wow was this was fantastic. I knew a handful of the artists and a few of the tracks, but for the most part this was all new material to me. Definitely added a bunch of new stuff to my Discogs want list. Other than the amazing track selection, the mixing was perfect and the flow was perfect throughout. Definitely going to be giving this many, many more listens. Really, a 10/10 mix. I love it

I recall that a handful of whites were pressed of this tune, and there is most likely some sort of vinyl rip of this floating around, as I've seen it pop up on a few tracklists. It's easy to see that the tune wasn't actually finished though. There is just so much space left for so many more ideas and a lot more variation, with long stretches where there isn't much happening.

thanks everyone for the kind words, seriously. i hadn't done much mixing in the last months, (except for one really halfarsed b2b with lacks) so i thought it wouldn't be that well recieved but ye,

this round was a nice one. i thought it would go in the same fate as round 3 but ye luckily it went nice, now i'm eagerly awaiting the remaining mixes which is djdk's, hamids and magadansky, since pozz and alfi is out.
