That is true about the playing fewer games and having breaks between each play, but the physical toll on their bodies is probably just as great as hockey. NFL players have tons of health problems after they retire. Knee replacements, back problems, etc. I mean the average career of an NFL RB is about 3-5 years. They literally are getting hit, and hard, on every single play. And they're getting hit by guys that weigh 250-300 pounds and can run a 4.5-5 sec 40 yard dash. It's fairly rare to see NFL players playing past 35 because of the toll being put on their bodies. Yeah, the plays are shorter, they get breaks between each one, etc, but the time during the play is incredibly violent for almost every position.

Also, what's the average shift time for an NHL player (not defensemen) like 15-30 seconds? So they're getting a minute or 2 break every 15-30 seconds too.

first line players easily play 1 to 2 minute shifts. 82 game season, with 2 games in 2 days (including travel which kills the nfl)...sometimes up to 4 games a week...on skates, with hard boards that do no forgive, with weapons in the hands, in a sport where you are allowed to punch people in the head with minimal repercussion. (not to mention blocking a piece of galvanized rubber going 100mph hurts...even as a goalie.)

have you ever played hockey russel? because i played hockey for 12 years and football for 7. Football doesn't even come close...and i say this from the perspective of a guy that has gotten concussions playing football. One year, a guy in our hockey league was killed, and another one paralyzed....at 15 years old.

imagine.

No, I've never played hockey. I'm not trying to take away from hockey either, as I've always thought that hockey players were probably the toughest of any professional sport, but at what ages did you play football? The gap even between college and the NFL is massive. The speed and size of the players is just ridiculous in the NFL. Also, being on skates makes things less dangerous imo. Someone getting cut by a skate is very rare, and having a foot planted in the ground with spikes makes it much more likely to sustain massive knee injuries. I'd post some videos, but they're pretty fucking disgusting. I could me wrong, but I would guess that running puts more wear and tear on knees/ankles than skating does too.

Yeah, I mean the same can be said for older NFL retirees. Even guys who retired maybe 5 years ago have serious issues especially with their knees and backs. Granted, I never played hockey before, but when I played football our coaches used to tell us that if every part of our body didn't hurt the morning after games/practices, we weren't playing hard enough, and that was 18 year old kids.

Either way, they're both by far the most violent sports, and I think we should take this time to laugh at soccerfags.

You should check out hurling if you've never seen it played before too. That is a fucking violent sport.

I broke my wrist when I was like 16 getting hit by a hurling bat. It seemed like someone would get hurt in almost every game lol

To his defense, Trump didn't even really look like a bum.

I was talking about this with one of my friends the other day. I think I lose interest in the NHL playoffs more than any other sport once my team has been eliminated. I haven't watched any games since the Sabres lost, and I probably won't until the later games of the finals. I guess it's probably because hockey is the one sport in this country that I've never played before, and while I do like it a lot, it's hard to stay interested once I no longer care who wins.
