Vinyl, although cds can have their uses. If a person does a lot of producing I would say a cd deck is vital.

Idea

no doubt vinyl is the King but cd is also fast becoming very very important for dj's to express themselves further...

just ask steve lawler, i've seen him play at TWO TRIBES and he was using cd's extensively!
Also Phil K, he's also known to be using cd's more frequently.
Infact more and more pro dj's are getting into cd's due to the technological advantage it has over decks. Also it helps them with their own bootlegs and productions since its easier and faster to burn it on a cd then wait for it to be manufactured on vinyl.

but otherwise, yes, vinyl will always be the King for dj's and it only being progressive mindedness to accept that cd's also play an important role for any dj to express themselves further instead of just dissing it period!

quite true.

although there is no true replacement for vinyl, cd decks like the cdj series are close enough and when it comes to getting out self produced material there is no better way then to burn your stuff and be ready to go.

one use of cd decks that i will not support is the pimping of bootlegged stuff off of file networks then claiming to be a logit dj.

The way I see it, vinyl is best. But I also think that after you've been spinning a while, it can be necessary to buy one or two CD decks. I think that because alot of songs are harder and sometimes very expensive to get on vinyl, CDs are a good choice. As for starting out though, I think vinyl is the way to go. But I see nothing wrong with both at the same time. I guess its just vinyl or vinyl and CDs, Cds alone seems way to 'fake' to me.

I think Vinyl is the best cuz' the quality is better, and it is more oldschool

But I can see that others prefer CD's cuz' they are easier to get, and you can mix your own music

By the way, I sometimes use CD's too, but still, i like Vinyl way more

Cd's, ... I know most DJ's hate me for saying this, but it's cheaper, easier and it takes less space and you can easily use your own edits, remixes and tracks

I hate you

naah, just playing, i think that CD's are the future of DJing, though it is a little sad, and vinyl is much better in my opinion, and more oldskool!

I think the future of djing involves more than just one media over the other. Vinyl is my favorite for mixing and what i do but i also use a laptop w/ traktor dj studio in place of cds when i play out. As for cds i feel they are extremely important for us to be able to use properley in a club setting. Heck, the next thing on my to buy list is a dn-s3000 or s5000 if only i had the $$$
