i'm gonna translate my comments on the draw from another forum:
| quote: | Grupo A:
Alemanha
Costa Rica
Polónia
Equador |
The worse group, next to ours. Poland and Equator are probably the weakest teams from their continents in the World Cup, and Costa Rica is hardly a major force neither. Prediction: The home team wins the group easily, polish and equatorians fight for the 2nd place (i'll risk saying here Poland will go through) and Costa Rica gets last place despite 1 or 2 good games.
| quote: | Grupo B:
Inglaterra
Paraguay
Trinidad & Tobago
Suécia |
In theory what we have here is a favourite, two good outsiders and a bunch of old farts from the 3rd world. Not really hard to predict the last places, but i have serious doubts for the 3 first places.. (Very risky) prediction : 1st Paraguay, 2nd England, 3rd Sweden. Trindad & Tobago isn't considered classified in the group due to having too many conceded goals.
| quote: | Grupo C:
Argentina
Costa do Marfim
Servia & Montenegro
Holanda |
This is the group of death for me. Ok, the Argentina-England-Sweden-Nigeria of last World Cup was more consistent, but beware for the strongest team in Africa and for one european team that while not one of the strongest, does have their weapons. Prediction: 1st Argentina, 2nd Holland, 3rd Ivory Coast, 4rd Serbia & Montenegro.
| quote: | Grupo D:
Mexico
Portugal
Angola
Iran |
Yeah.. we're proudly part of the shit group of this World Cup. Or not? For some time already I've been saying Mexico has every condition to be this cup's big surprise, and I'm not too happy with knowing we'll face them. But they were in theory the weakest seeders. Iran is far from a major force, but they make me shiver - everyone remembers the scandal that was the defeat against Iraq in the Olympic Games, and in the football world Iran is some sort of a super-Iraq. Now about Angola.. well I dunno if I'm being too confident, but i predict a result of 4-0. Prediction: 1st Mexico, 2nd Portugal, 3rd Iran, 4th Angola.
| quote: | Grupo E:
Itália
Gana
EUA
República Checa |
The most boring group, and possibly the 2nd strongest. All the teams are quality: Italy is a serious candidate to winning the cup, Czech Rep are a top team despite them having more traditions in Euro Cups, USA have proved their quality in the last cup, and I do believe they'll keep the form, and Ghana despite not being very well known has several quality players. Prediction: 1st Italy, 2nd USA, 3rd Czech Rep, 4th Ghana.
| quote: | Grupo F:
Brasil
Croácia
Austrália
Japão |
This is a very interesting group. It has the strongest candidate to winning the cup, and at the same time 3 outsiders that I wouldn't bet a lot on, but still could trouble Brazil in a good day. As much as I like Croatia, I don't think they're what they've used to be anymore, therefore I think Australia and Japan have very good chances of going through. Prediction: 1st Brazil, 2nd Japan, 3rd Australia, 4th Croatia.
| quote: | Grupo G:
França
Suiça
Coreia do Sul
Togo |
Togo doesn't count, lets drop them from the group already. The remaining teams make for another interesting mix of talents. France is one hell of a team, but they're risking to become just another bunch of old farts, they don't seem like a really solid favourite. Switzerland and South Korea are 2 identical teams but without great hopes of going very far in the competition. Prediction: 1st France, 2nd South Korea, 3rd Switzerland.
| quote: | Grupo H:
Espanha
Ucrânia
Tunisia
Arábia Saudita |
Spain has everything to pass, even if i don't believe they'll manage to get all 9 points. And at the same time, ukranian people are probably partying thinking they got an accessible group. They're mistaken, watch out carefully for Tunisia. I don't think Saudi Arabia are going to be again the shit team of the cup, but I can't see them going through neither. Prediction: 1st Spain, 2nd Tunisia, 3rd Ukraine, 4th Saudi Arabia.

okay I'm confused how is this the most boring group exactly, when you have Spain, Ukraine, Tunisia and Saudi Arabia Group H. Truth be told that maybe with the exception of Spain(and they are always inconsistent) would get beaten by the teams in Group E. So please elaborate on how its boring or did you intend to use another term.
As a U.S. fan this draw sucks for us big time, but sometimes you have to face the tough tests to play with the big boys of World Football, I just hope the group doesn't turn out like Italia 90 for the U.S.
Team Rank P W D L GF GA Pts
Italy 1 3 3 0 0 4 0 9
Czechoslovakia 2 3 2 0 1 6 3 6
Austria 3 3 1 0 2 2 3 3
USA 4 3 0 0 3 2 8 0
Yikes, this group has all the makings of that same result, even if we get out of this group we would face Brazil if we finished 2nd. Well it will certainly be a good learning experience to see how far U.S. football has come as a passionate fan. I'll enjoy all the games.
