unrelated but since I just posted the Beyer link - he is celebrating Drumcode's 10th anniversary next month at the End in London alongside Joel Mull... and also his 30th bday!! daaaamn... I knew he started young but I would have guessed he was maybe 33 now... not 20 when he established arguably one of the most influential techno labels ever!

Funny...when I saw the pics of Beyer from awakenings on Friday I thought he looked older than I remembered him looking...interesting that he's younger than Barbara (but barely)!

I am reeeeally looking forward to Laurent Garnier at the end of the month...it feels like a long time since I've heard some techno.

Beyer also shares the same birthday (and year!) as Umek and they are the same height.. heheh

For sure I thought Beyer was a few years older as well... he accomplished so much at such a young age!

DEMF news

Well it looks like I can't make it to DEMF this year...but here's some news of the talent being booked. A lot of Mutek artists, no surprise there tho.

Chrysler Jeep Superstores and Motor City Dodge Dealers Back Detroit’s Electronic Music Festival; Paxahau Promotions debuts artist lineup and confirms Hart Plaza as Festival’s home

DETROIT- Just three weeks following their selection by the City of Detroit to produce Detroit’s Electronic Music Festival in 2006, Paxahau Promotions Group today announced Chrysler Jeep Superstores and Motor City Dodge Dealers as the event’s title sponsors, revealed a lineup of artists and confirmed that Hart Plaza will remain home to the international event slated for May 27-29.

“Our entire team has been working tirelessly to create a festival that truly represents and celebrates electronic music, and at the same time is a financially sound and viable event,” said Jason Huvaere, Paxahau’s Managing Director.

“We are thrilled to have Chrysler Jeep Superstores and Motor City Dodge Dealers on board as our title sponsors,” said Huvaere. “They understand that the festival is part of the cultural fabric of Detroit, and they see its significance internationally and within the electronic music community. We look forward to a longstanding relationship with these organizations.”

City of Detroit Chief Administrative Officer Lucius Vassar commended Chrysler Jeep Superstores and Motor City Dodge Dealers for their support of the event, saying “It’s good to see these two business associations that are a part of Detroit’s automotive heritage partnering with an event that has emerged from our city’s rich music and cultural heritage.”

“I commend Chrysler Jeep Superstores and Motor City Dodge Dealers for recognizing the value an event like Detroit’s Electronic Music Festival adds to the cultural and tourism development of a city. With these types of partnerships in place, I expect the event to flourish and continue to draw people from all over the world here to Detroit,” said Vassar.

After carefully examining several festival venue options, Paxahau today announced the 2006 event will remain in Downtown Detroit’s Hart Plaza. “We considered several venue options in order to really determine the best location for the event, for fans, and for the City of Detroit,” said Huvaere. “When it comes to infrastructure and ambience, it’s tough to beat Hart Plaza.”

Alex Under at Fabrikka Club, Italy, April 1 06

This guy is top for me right now. I am constantly impressed with his releases - this is what club minimal music is about for me. truly groovy shit goin on in here.

Interview with Alex:

How did you get into production?
I’ve been into music all my life. When I was a teenager I was playing in metal bands as a drummer. Then in the mid nineties I discovered my brother’s computers and I saw the light.

What are your influences within techno?
Thomas Brinkmann, Richie Hawtin, Carl Craig, Rhythm Maker, Chimo Bayo, Tadeo, and Damian Schwartz.

What are your influences outside techno?
Chet Baker, Coltrane, Primus, Nino Rota, Sinatra, Amorphis, and Criatura.

What do you think of the European techno scene at the moment?
The European scene is good, I think it’s the biggest in the world, but really it’s too big to talk about as one scene. The Spanish scene isn’t so good at the moment, it seems to be growing now, but there aren’t that many good artists here and clubbing is going backwards. In Germany,
Switzerland, Belgium or the UK, for example, everything is totally different. The clubs are
always full of people.

What do you enjoy more: DJing or producing?
It’s a different kind of enjoyment. Maybe DJing is more fun, but producing feeds the soul.

What makes you unique as a producer?
I don’t know if I am. Being different is the most important thing for a producer, though.

Do you try to create an emotional response with your music, or just make people dance? Is home listening more important to you, or use in the club?
Use in the club, of course. It really depends which of my music you mean: my 12"s on Trapez and CMYKmusik I made just for dancing, but my album 'Dispositivos de mi Granja' was created for all kinds of people and all environments.

Are you a perfectionist?
Not at all. I’m always working hard in my head, thinking about combining music, party, art and the avant-garde. I delete hundreds of projects from my computer just because they are nothing special, nothing new. But in the working process, I’m not such a perfectionist.

What's the best thing about being a techno DJ/producer?
For me, everything. I can’t imagine my life without being a musician. To discover new ways of developing music and art is always exciting. Also travelling and knowing people from all over the world is good.

What's your next release?
I’ve got four 12“s coming out over the next seven months. Collage on +8, which is conceptual dancefloor-oriented tracks; part 2 of Multiplicanciones on Apnea, this is my most personal music; and another 12“ on Trapez - this is a new genre, it’s not trance, it’s not techno, it’s not house, but it has things that relate to all those genres; and finally Naranja Monje on CMYKmusik.

What are your plans for the future?
I’ll work as a producer for the next eight years, then I’ll move with my wife and son to Phuket, in south Thailand, and run a stall on the beach selling crepes with fruit and toffee.
